ive no plan to get married, perhaps get a woman some time but no i dont like the idea of marriage it sounds too confusing. But on the issue of things holding you back the solution is a patio heater. i have one in the shed now and the cold is a problem of the past, even in that -15 well id like to say it made the shed nice and toasty but really the shed i do work in is an old cattle shed so no it didnt but it did take the chill out of the air. And for the finger numbness its amazing how them blue gloves keeps the heat in your hand.

the Garage used too be an old coach house where the carts and horse where kept in the Owd days its Huge and takes an Age to Warm up and when ido manage to warm the place up My mrs decides to come an Have a nosey and opens the big Electric doors and lets all the heat out soo warmth is no Exsitant in there ,
its a no win situation -Roll on summer

Re: mpg hdi
get yourself a couple of patio heaters, and supersers, they soon warm up a space fast. In the quest for warmth i have tried wearing hot water bottles, apart from the safety risk i found the slushing sound annoying.
