ECU not communicating

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

ECU not communicating

Post by lionyo »

Hi,

My 2003 53 406 2.0 hdi 110 engine management light and anti pollution message comes up and the doesnt pick speed up properly. Anyway took it to a garage this morning and the computer couldn't connect with the car he had a snap on computer, mechanic said their might be a problem with the wiring and said to bring it back tommorow morning...

Any ideas on what is going on?

Is it worth disconnecting the battery for a few hours but will I lose the key programme or CD code?

I am located in Birmingham if anyone is kind enough who can help me out.

Not really but I do remember someone (Doggy?) saying they couldn't talk to their car because a fuse had blown :?

Well for starters I would go through all the fuses to see if any are blown. I couldn't tell you which one it is I'm afraid

Here is a picture of the fuse box just in case someone can circle or tell me which one it could be.

The main fuse box is by your right knee as you're sitting in the car behind a panel.

take a multimeter to all fuses, put it on the bleep setting, so when its over a good fuse it bleeps, and when its over a bad one it stays quiet, replace any silent fuses. Then there is also the earting point under the battery storage box worth a try. I think no2lurch had similar problems recently. Even a new battery is worth a try.

Right gentlemens! It's not the same fuse on all cars - mine, (2002/52 fully multiplexed HDi), was F4, (10A), in the engine fusebox. mjb's car had the same problem, his is an early D9 V6 coupe and the fuse was F14, rating & location as above.

Simples :?:
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Hi,

Is it under the steering column or is the fusebox in the engine bay the one I took pictures of as above?

Many thanks!

Good idea! BTW I've read that removing the supplies from a Bosch EDC 15 ecu in the wrong order makes it think you're trying to hot-wire it, so it protects your vehicle by locking itself......

You should be able to check them in situ with a meter on the exposed tags on top of the fuse.

Hi all,

I checked the fuses and they looked fine but just for piece of mind I changed the 10 fuses.

Will pop down to the garage tommorow for the chap to take a look at it, disconnected the battery for now to see if it resets itself.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
