Stray wire,

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Post by lozz »

Found along wire hanging down the back of the Engine its wasnt conected to anything from what icouid see,
itraced it back to the Ecu -itwas patched into the Ecu loom single > (Yellow-wire)
ive Chopped it and made it safe but im just wondering why it was there in the first place,
My guess is if ihadnt seen the wire and made it safe- it couid of shorted against the Engine and Spiked the Ecu :(

Any ideas what this wire couid of been added for ?

sorry mate iwill Alter my sig,

Numbers on what ?

the wire?

ive not noticed any numbers but the wire on the ecu loom which as been Tapped into is a Yellow wire,
The end of the added wire was hanging down the back of the Engine middle of the car -carnt find anything which looks like its been patched intoo,
so it may of been going into the inside of the car,

when ifirst got the car there was a Handful of wires none -factory fitted ones floating around in the passenger side which i ripped out,
car as Never been a Taxi so icarnt understand what they were about,

but the wire from the Ecu as got me Puzzled

There are no colour codes, just letters & numbers. Ah, I thought you meant it just came out of the loom but you mean this loose wire is an extra one spliced into an existing wire in the ecu loom(?) I think the numbers are only on the ends of the wires near the connectors so I don't think you'll be wanting to undo the loom to get at it. Probably best to remove it, insulate the wire & wrap some insulting tape around the loom.

Immobiliser? Someone's fitted & then removed a fuel computer? I once removed 100s of feet (bin bag full) of wire from a mate's VW, I've no idea what it was for either, but all that concerns me is repairing the damage and making it safe.

Lord knows. I s'pose the length of the wire will give you a search area for anything unusual.
