22mpg from a 2 litre! I get about 20 from HARD driving in the turbo
A mate of mine has a lovely white STi 299bhp, its great, well fast. The power makes my turbo seem like a Metro in comparison. However he manages an average of 18mpg and with only a 45 litre fuel tank it doesnt go very far! Ill try and find a photo of it.

Interestingly I was checking insurance just yesterday and found I can insure a UK 2000 turbo for less than ?400 a year TPFT. Goes up to just under 600 for an import.

Amazing isn't it? The 2.0 Pug Turbo is 150bhp and the Subaru 2.0 Turbo is 280bhp.

I suppose the Subaru is multi-valve and runs higher boost, but not MUCH higher than the pug, the pug runs, say, 0.7 bar? and the Subaru 0.9 bar maybe 1.0bar? as standard.....

The Subaru even has a top mounted IC so where's all the extra bhp from?

the engine mapping on the 406 lump is very conservative, it is aimed at torque nto bhp hence the peak torque from 1800 rpm, the suberu lump is more wild and racey hitting the rev limiter at 8000 rpm (6200? on stock 406?)

16 valves on the subaru allow more airflow and more fuel to be injected when needed, the 406 also has the restictive exhaust manifold, subaru does nothave this.

also

the subaru does use more fuel than the 406 by a long shot, dont dream. drive the subaru using those 280 horses and it will use fuel for that. you wont get 22mpg when driving it hard :P

as for tuningthe subaru, and people say OMFG OPTIMAXXX!!!!11111

the problem with an import is it is mapped to use 110ish ron fuel from japan, however throw a remap on it with normal unleaded and it will run fine on that, and as said its always cylinder 3 on imprezas that go first.

good luck wih your purchase, stuff a td05/ fmic/ get a remap and crank up the 'booost n juice'

I thought for one horrifying moment that you were actually leaving the site as well. If you ask me, your 406 sort of sums up the brave spirit of 406oc.co.uk so it will be a sad loss. Lucky sod with the new car though -- what I wouldn't give to own one myself, even if the interior is crap! :D

I know a guy with a 450hp Scooby, has an EGT sensor that doesn't allow the engine to rev too high when the Exhaust gas temp is too high in order to protect the scooby block !

I actually looked into purchasing an Imported 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 2.6 GTR V Spec twin turbo, but the insurance quote was off the planet, crazy price ! ! I know what Pug406GTX means because I've had my car for like 5 years now and I feel like something faster and sportier! My pug has put up with everything I've thrown at it, the block is solid even with 1bar + of boost thrown at it and hammered hard !

But to get it upto the power I want, I'm not sure its worth the investment now ! I always used to think it was, because its my 6' and it would be so cool to have 300hp in a taxi ! ! But for the cost of all the required hardware, I could get a skyline or RX7 ! ! imported and already modified ! !..... so what do you do?? I might just sack it off and get a motorbike ! !

I bought a Yamaha FZR600 3 weeks ago to play with. It's that missing power the 406 doesn't have. :D

I am confused on 2 counts:

No.1 - How come you sell the 406 and then it appears on ebay within a week?

No.2 - The rear bumper on the scooby is not the Jap OE fitment (for the square plate).
