i loved my first vitara i didnt think much of suzuki before it and just stumbled across buying it cheap (£50), tin worm riddled it, but i still drove it even with the body falling apart, it even was completley seperated from the chasis at the back, and i just used ratchet straps to hold it in place. The engine kept going but i burnt the clutch out in it, and then i went to buy another vitara, put a wanted ad in the paper, and the seller thought his sammy was a vitara so i went to see it and was pleasently suprised when i arrived to see i was actually getting a real sammy a convertable. After driving one of these the vitara feels too heavy and cumbersome off road, and because of the coil springs its a bit too isolated from the surface.

back onto the issue of rust, ive got pictures of the stuff that i actually used to get the rust away:
So in the hammerite 2 part rust kit there is a tin of galve primer, and some rust removing gel, which i will now discuss:
so you need to sand, scrape, curse at, and rub with a wire brush until blood come out of your hands, or the metal is as clean as possible (whatever comes first):

and this is usually enough:

just dirt in the holes, cleaned out with a rag, heres a bette example of how clean it should be:

(that bit in the hole hadnt been done, then i started it)

so with the metal as clean as possible its time to hoover the area, clean it, and hoover it again to get rid of all the dust, and then time to get the rust removing gel:

it looks like BOOGIES
liberally apply the BOOGIES over the affected areas:

repeat the application of the boogies every 20 minuites for 2 hours, this apparently draws up and out the rust. So ill show what that looks like later.

it looks like Swafega ibet itd burn like a biatch on your hands tho ,
whats your next plan are you painting the floor or leaving as it is,?

when i was in halfords i got the full kit:

although i already have a better wire brush, more sandpaper and extra paintbrushes.
the boogies is called hammerite rust remover gel.

theres a bit of safety advice, i wore gloves as a precaution, but i think with this stuff its ok to do most stuff with it as long as you dont eat it, it seems to be working quite nicely at the moment sucking out the rust, better pics will reveal either one of 2 things; shiny metal, or the road below.

ok so here is what the boogie looks like after 24hrs of sitting:

saps the rust right out

clean it off with water, give it 10 mins to dry, sand it down like mad to get rid of all the rust, clean the area for dust and add more boogies and wait for another 2 hours, then clean it off again:

it leaves it nice and shiny

then paint some galve primer on:

be liberal with it, then after 6 hours put another coat on it. Ive done that now im waiting for the 24hrs before i get the china blue paint on, my intention is to spray the aerosol into a lid in my shed to avoid the spray going all over my nice interior, then applying the blue paint with a brush, yes there will be brush strokes but heck i dont really need to paint this blue because its in a hidden area anyhow, but ill just paint it for the sake of painting it.

right so here is the paint, i sprayed it into the lid, away from anything that could suffer aestetically from the spray:

take a brush (not completely cleaned from using the primer) and apply the blue paint over the primer on the metal:

ok its not a thing of beauty this bit of painting, but its dry now and looks much less noticeable, and anyhow it will be covered up by a seat that under normal circumstances doesnt come out, also when the back seats out its suprising how unrefined the car is, its like removing the door.

WOuldn't it have been easier to spray it? Just mask up everything you don't want blue...

Good job anyway, I couldn't be that bothered with my D8 (rust caused by that rubber bung in the middle there coming loose :roll: ) so I just cleaned it up as best as I could be bothered, painted it with the weird cellulose-based underseal they sell here (the stuff I bought to paint the inside of the galvanised gutters on my wife's house :? ), sprayed it with primer & finest China blue (mixed by the same shop that sold me the undersqueal) and it was fine for 4 years 'til I flogged it.

Speaking of the old tinworm, did you ever do anything about your sills?

the only problem with my sills was the seals looked a bit rough, so i changed them at the time, and filled each hole with a lot, and then a lot more, and just to top it off some more waxoyl, there was never any rust, although if im honest you know that thin strip along the bottom of the car for jacking up the car, i come off a kerb one day and i hit it, its not the sill and i just bent it back into shape with a vice grip, and used a hammer to level it off. On the interior side I didnt spray it because in a car with a yellow headrest, yellow carpets, yellow seats youd notice spray splatters everywhere i think so i just didnt want to even take the risk.

the paint is dry, and im glad to have the back seat in, i never sit on it but it is a very under rated bit of sound insulation.

well in a dodgy car that wire would be the power going to the fuel pump.
But on my car that wire is the pp2000, very tidily tucked away in the first aid box, no wait. Ive just threw it across the back footwell. The envelope is filled with air.

Well if if it was a Dodgey car mate
iwouidnt of botherd askin what the wire was for lol,
iwouid of just Asumed you were collecting olde wire to strip and weigh in :lol:

really you dont know what a pp2000 is, its the device for reading fault codes and doing all the stuff the dealer computer is capable of doing.
I hold onto old wiring connectors but throw out the wire, it never adds up to much for me, and having odd bits of wiring when trying to do something tidy isnt much good.

im not into Electrical Gizmos,
im More intoo tools eg, big hammer little hammer and sthil saws and Spanners is all iknow about ,
sorry im abit Dumb got thrown out of school @ 13 im still learning about all this technical stuff, :(
