I don't know where to start!! pls help

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

and i think you needed to source the water leak rather than just presume it was the water pump

From above:

Sounds like a bull's eye to me...

It would be odd to stick the old belt back, I'm not even if you can adjust an old one. However, this is by the by, if it's been turning and it still lines up it doesn't matter, in fact if it's dead a new belt would have been a waste :(

Still thinking connectors myself.

What constitutes "the rest"? Maybe here was what broke :?

Thanks again,

Ok, after it ran I ajusted the tension on the Cam belt as it was a little tight, re-attached the auxillery belt and put wheel arch and wheel back on.....

I seem to remember someone else had this same sort of problem, If I remember it turned out to be something simple in the end.

Have a good look through the engine/transmission threads or do a search, I'm sure there is something somewhere.

I know you said you have fuel pressure from the lifter pump but have you checked there is fuel all the way to the injectors ?

Ok, the car has been to Peugeot today,

Fault codes are,

Permanent Fault. 3rd piston deactivation. Short-circuit to earth or circuit open. P1135.
Intermittent Fault. Crankshaft-camshaft synchronisation. variation in engine speed signal too sudden. P0340
Intermittent Fault. Crankshaft -camshaft sychronisation. No camshaft sensor signal P0340
Remote Intermittent fault. Brake contact signal. no communication P0571

Any opinions welcome!!

You haven't trapped a wire under something have you? That's a lot of faults...

What? Are they nuts?? I'd say go back and check they put the cam sensor on right. I found this which might help http://www.petrila.net/peugeot/406/Serv ... df01k3.htm

Then I'd get the ecu tested.

Some of these intermittent codes sit on ecu's for years with no ill effect.

All this needs is a bad connection or you've accidentally knocked the plug off the HP pump?

Intermittent Fault. Crankshaft-camshaft synchronisation. variation in engine speed signal too sudden. P0340
Intermittent Fault. Crankshaft -camshaft sychronisation. No camshaft sensor signal P0340

Incorrect timing could do that :arrowu: or a loose / badly positoned sensor.

Remote Intermittent fault. Brake contact signal. no communication P0571

I've heard of this one before - it noramlly doesn't cause any problem.
