electrical i think

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I have metered for continuity between the negative battery terminal and the engine block which was ok but i must admit i haven't tried the others which i should really do as the wifes perodua suffered a similar problem years ago and that was down to the earth on the ECU.

I have just been out with the meter again.
I have a resistance of 2k between either negative on battery or engine block to the outer casing of the ECU, Is this correct?
there is continuity between the negative battery terminal and anywhere else on the body so i assume the earth from the battery is ok.

2K? That sounds a bit high. Is there any voltage when you try to start it? I've not got a wiring diagram but I'd expect it to be earthed.

I just had a bloke out to do the diagnostics on my Pug and it is not electrical at all.
The cam belt or tensioners have gone.
Thanks to all the suggestions and help over the past month or so everyone.
I still can't beleive that the RAC man didn't notice though i thought it was their job to look for the obvious faults!

Cam belt? Yarrgh :( I just had mine replaced - expensive service, but less expensive than having your whole engine rebuilt or replaced because it's essentially killed itself.

Do you know if the belt/tensioners/water pump had ever been changed since the car was new? They're meant to be done every 8 years or so, or 80,000 miles (whichever comes first).

No I don't know any of the history, The car was bought last Sept so i had a car big enough for my family to go on holiday in,
it did that job very well but prior too the holiday we had a near fire caused by the siren sounder wires shorting against the body work.
it will be scrapped now though as the tax is due at the end of the month and another £500 for the repair on a car that i only paid £400 for doesn't make economic sense
But i must admit i did love driving it but circumstances mean it has to go.
regards pete
It will also be the last time i get a car from someone that advertises at the side of the road. It's all been put down to experiance but still gutted.

I've always had a problem with blue cars and had too think long and hard before i got this one, But will definately look into getting another in the future as long as its a nice red or green or anything other than blue.
I have had 5 blue cars in my driving time and all have met with falling trees, sheep or mechanical faults and pure un-luckyness.
2 OF THE 5 HAVE BEEN PUGS first one was a falling tree whilst driving but we all escaped un-harmed.

Was gonna ask if you'd like to buy my old saloon - bit battered, but a good runner - but it's China Blue, so ... :cheesy:

I know i only paid £425 for it, But the scrap metal merchant has just told me they will give me £150 for it which i don't think is too bad, It also means the car is going to be cubed so the scrap yards that only wanted to give £70 for it won't be making a profit on the bits

Pull some bits from it to sell on separately

If it's got alloys, you could sell those. Door cards, gear knob, steering wheel, airbag, ash tray, glovebox, seats, clock, dials, dashboard trim, head unit, etc. etc. Rip bits out and sell them separately (post adverts for them on the "Wanted/For Sale" section here, then get the rest of the car cubed by the scrappy.

Thanks both but i haven't got the room to store the bits or the time too advertise and post them, I still have a load of bits from my old espace that went the same way and the pug replaced.
although i have kept the battery and the ecu and new relay that i bought.
Plus the car is being picked up early tomorrow and it was a struggle to get the stereo and cd changer out along with the kiddy seats and the general collection of tools and bits before it went dark.
Regards Pete :)
