Anyone tried k-seal before ?

Post by gumby6371 »

Just wondered if anyone here has tried k-seal or similar liquid repair products ?
I'm getting thick oil deposits on the coolant filler cap, not loads but it's there.

No other usual symptoms of head gasket failure and the oil has reduced since I changed the oil cooler so I'm thinking of giving it a flush and putting some k-seal in as it's a hell of a lot cheaper and easier than stripping the head. I've also noticed a few (very minor) coolant leaks that should be sorted by a bottle of k-seal.

Must admit when I changed the cooler I only flushed with tap water so what I'm seeing could well be residue that didn't flush before.

Ordered the stuff off t'internet for £9.95 after some very positive reviews as even if the head is fine it should plug any minor leaks else where.

Anyone else tried the stuff ?

I put some in the tubby a couple of years ago with no problem. Like you I had mayo on the oil filler cap & no other symptoms.
In the end I put it down to condensation causing it; when I bought the car there was no dipstick ( ) so moisture may have got in that way, who knows.
Since I cleaned the cap & the oil filler tube up it hasn't happened since.

My sons micra started puffing white smoke out the exhaust last december, and a few days after draining the coolant and replacing with fresh.
I drove over to his work and poured in a small bottle of k-seal to the radiator and expansion tank and started the car up. It smoked for about 10 mins then the exhaust cleared,so i followed my son home and for the first 1/2 mile there was some white smoke. After that it cleared and has been find since, driven around 2000 miles all goood :) . So from my usage k-seal is good stuff, But remember if its oil leaking into your coolant it will not help!.

I'm tempted to give this a go because i picked up an S reg car last night. After the 20 mile drive home i topped up the coolant as the light came on(took 1.7ltrs  ). My first thought was head gasket as the car has had a new clutch and water pump 500 miles ago, so i left it running and put a big piece of card board under the engine. No sign of leaks, or over heating which makes me even more certain of a HG failure. There are no signs of cross contamination in the coolant or oil. It could just be that the garage never topped it up properly, maybe wish full thinking.I spose for a tenner its worth a squirt. Wish me luck

My radiator was leaking 2 years ago used k-seal and its been ok ever since i did get a small leak again recently but it seems to have stopped. Maybe this year i'll replace it. 10 yrs on the original radiator is not bad so can't complain. Like you said a bottle of k-seal is a lot cheaper than a repair. It gets the thumbs up from me anyway.

Thanks
