MFD Trouble

Post by Tom406 »

Sorry for more MFD questions!

I'm new to the site, looks great and very helpful by the way!

I had a quick search but couldn't find any topics with a similar problem.

I have a 2002 D9 406 HDi 110 GLX, when I bought it around 4 months ago it only displayed the time and date on the MFD, along with the outside temp displayed as --. When pressing the end of the wiper stalk nothing happens.

It currently has an aftermarket Alpine stereo fitted, would it be worth replacing it for a standard Clairon unit and getting it vin linked to the BSI?
Is there any possibility that this could be a contribution to the fault?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom & welcome to the site. 8)

I'm pretty sure your car should have the trip computer working properly. No personal experience to go on, but the aftermarket HU could well be at least part of the problem.

In many cases, adapter leads can be fitted to allow aftermarket kit to work with the r/c stalk, which implies display & computer function should not be affected. I suggest disconnecting the HU to see if it helps - you can always put it back.

Some of these functions can be enabled / disabled in the car's BSI, (Body Systems Interface), using dealer level diagnostic kit.

Try disconnecting the HU first & let us know what happens....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Hi, I pulled out and unplugged the HU and it didn't make any difference, there is an unused lead in there that I am guessing is for the 6 disc Clairon CD changer in the boot.

I also had a look to see if any adaptor leads or similar were fitted but everything looks standard, I did kind of expect this as none of the column controls work anyway, it looks to be a very basic, farily old HU.

Any other ideas would be a great help, its starting to bug me now I'm looking into it!! :x :x

Thanks.

Maybe the Mfd screen as been replaced with one from a lower spec car Lx model perhaps.
if its got a aftermarket stereo fitted some of the mfd functions wont display eg radio channels, etc and the stalk will become useless :(
