Central Locking and Air Bag Light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Central Locking and Air Bag Light

Post by livingstonc »

Hi all,

First posting have tried searching without success so here goes:

The Air Bag light on the dash is flashing, it previously was doing this but after checking underneath the seat and push the clips it went off. I have check them again and stays flashing all the time now?

The Central Locking has not worked since I got car either by remote or by key. When I try to lock drivers side by key the key lock rotates and sometimes does not. When I try by key and it tries to lock you can here it making a noise but nothing locks. The same happens by remote.

When I try drivers side, nothing happens. I have replaced the motor in driver side and no difference

Any help on either or both these situation is much appreciated?

Airbag light flashing is a common issue to the 406 owner - it's caused by silly little connectors underneath the drivers' seat needing wiggled / re-seated (i.e. unplug 'em and securely plug 'em back in again). I've had it a few times on my old saloon.

Hi & welcome to the site. 8)

As Graeme says, the airbag light is down to poor connection on one of the plugs under the seat - on my last car it happened every time I moved the drivers seat, on this one it's the passeneger one.

The door lock barrels are meant to rotate if you put the wrong key in, (so you can't force them). If the central locking attemps to lock, then immediately unlocks it 'thinks' one of the doors, boot, bonnet isn't properly shut. Worth looking to see if anything's a bit out of kilter.

This also includes the fuel flap, I believe, which should also bolt shut when you lock the car.

Hi all,

apologies for not getting back quicker, bloody weather.

Anyway, Airbag light off, one of the connectors underneath the chairs. Not sure which one unplugged and plugged back in and all sorted.

Central locking after putting loads of WD40 in the locks and mechanisms still the sameish.

WHEN I LOCK WITH KEY THE DRIVERS SIDE, NOTHING LOCKS EXCEPT DRIVERS DOOR.
THEN I LOCK THE PASSENGERS DOOR, THE 2 BACK DOORS AND PASSENGER DOOR LOCK BUT NOT THE BOOT.
I HAVE TO LOCK BOOT MANUALLY.

IF I TRY AND LOCK WITH REMOTE IT DOES TRY AND LOCK (CAN HERE DRIVERS DOOR MOTOR GOING) BUT NO JOY.

Thanks for Airbag info. any ideas for Central Locking?
