Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
none of my engines ever had mayo on the dipstick, a lawnmower did and it was fecked.
Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
as with all swaps /deals unless you know them in my opinion its like putting a bet on a horse,
Ithink if the "swapper" was Trying to offload a pup He wouid of Rammed a deal inwith you there and then to Get rid of it,
its Hard to say "wether the puggy wouid throw out any Gremlins,
its A Gamble But is it one Your prepared to Take?
ive Took Gambles on cars in the past -with Swapping and ive Ended up loosing out and wished inever swapped,
Think about Your other options,
Eg Tidy up the bumper And flogg the Mondey its Gotta be Worth £500 say then add the cash you was Going to Add to the deal and just go out and Buy a 406 estate theres a Few on Ebay that look very tidy and plenty mot & tax cheap,

Thanks for all your responses and info chaps
The 406 was a 2 litre, 155k, recent clutch, not long had a service (apparently), there was no mayo under the filler cap, but worryingly quite a bit on the dipstick (in my opinion) to be condensation, enough to put me off
It didnt appear to be running lumpy when it was idling or when he drove off
Think that is a good idea, I might replace the rear bumper on the Mondeo, stick 12 months test on and it should sell reasonably well as it has a newish clutch in

Yeh a 12mth mot wouid be A good selling point on the mondey and add couple of hundread to its value no doubt,
a fresh bumper wouid make it into a nice tidy motor,

Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
Cheers mate, I'l start to have a proper look for a rear bumper next week, it needs to be changed anyway as its a MOT faliure as it flaps like a sheet in the wind when I drive it, ive tried securing it with cable ties but it just snaps them
It might be a long journey back into 406 ownership as it has to be a 7 seater, 3 young kids and my wife is due our 4th in 4 weeks, I hate people carriers, the 406 family is the best of both worlds, a 406 and a 7 seater
If all else fails a standard estate, then trawling ebay and breakers yards every day for the 7 seat conversion, annoying really as that was my original plan with my last 406
which I sold for £520
GLX HDI 90 and it drove superb, even with 250k on

Why on earth I sold it for peanuts I don't know, a massive regret, All because I bought that dog of a 206 in the backround and could'nt afford to run both of them

Going to look at a D8 2.0 petrol 7 seater tomorrow, local lad got it for sale for £335ono, 6 months test, but tax just out today
He says it's in very good condition with solid sills etc, only fault sometimes when idling it will cut out, however will restart straight away??

sounds like a bargain !
it couid be something simple that Maf or the icv thingy might need a clean
Good luck mate hope all goes well for ya

Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
Cheers lozz, I really do hope its a good un', price seems to cheap to be true to be honest
I had a good chat with the lad over the phone and he seems honest and knew alot about it which is a good sign, sounds good over the phone, metallic grey LX, good bodywork, sills and engine, he says sometimes it will idle all day then others it can randomly cut out, however will start back up straight away. I'm certainly hoping its only MAF, icv related, His mate reckons the throttle body needs cleaning
I will post some pics if I get it, £335ono with 6 months test, and its a 7 seater, sounds too good to be true

At that price and with it having 6mths mot its well worth looking at,Roylewaa wrote:Cheers lozz, I really do hope its a good un', price seems to cheap to be true to be honest

ive seen the rear seats for the 7 seaters go for £200 alone so you carnt loose there
Maybe hes selling it off cheap as the tax as just ran out D.v.l.a are on the prowl for outa date tax discs etc or perhaps he carnt afford to insure it they do seem to be very high on insurance

Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
That was my thinking, even after 6 months if its too far gone to retest, I can easily pick up another D8 estate and transfer the 2 extra seats too, or sell them on and recoup a good chunk back before selling on or scrapping the car, worse case scenario of course, I'm gonna come in at £250 and go from there, tbh if its as described I would happily pay the asking price
It will be sitting on my drive for a week or 2 until I sell the Mondeo, I will be happy at least
Still can't decide how to sell the Mondie, As it is with a broken bumper and 3 months mot and a months tax, or throw money into it hoping I can recoup it back in the sale, Its hit and miss with Mondeo's as they're 10 a penny

theres pleny of them about in yards shouid be plenty in silver common colour for the mondie,
fix the bumper and advertise it someone will buy it, yes iagree they are 10 a penny but there reliable and theres many of people out there that like them,
ive had over 18 mondeos iused to be a big fan of them ieven had one from brandnew back in 1994

fix the bumper and post an add on the scottish mondeo forum theres members on there from all over the uk ..might be a good place to find a buyer for it

oh btw ive noticed youve got turbine alloys on the mondey there a good selling point they used to be like rockin horse poo to get hold of make note of them being on the car if you advertise it ...
Re: Possible deal on a 7 seater 406 tomoz
Cheers mate, Yeah, I think at least replace the bumper, Ive already replaced the drivers door on it as the tinworm took hold at the bottom, unfortunately I smashed the bumper trying to remove it
as missed a couple of fixings and pulled on it a little hard
I agree with you with Mondeo's I used to be a big fan, and admit toyed with the idea of keeping it aswell, but whats the point, it would get little use and I could'nt justify paying additional insurance on it, this was my 8th Mondeo, my fav was a 51 plate TDDI, did neirly 40k in that with not 1 thing go wrong, I'm imbaressed to admit I never serviced it in that time either and just topped up things when required so was a bit rough when I sold it on
I thought the wheels on the Mondeo were just called 16" Zetecs?, similar to the Escort GTI 15"s and a cheap alternative to Escort Cosworth wheels,
Arnt the Turbines the ST24 alloys?
I know with good tyres they can go for around the £150 mark, and with the Mondeo having a recent clutch (which sends most old mk2's to the scrappy) I'm going to try for around the £400-£450 mark, the clutch replacement cost £250 alone so I think its a fair price as got quite a bit of history with 3 keys inc rare blue master key and original folder
I upgraded all the speakers aswell with Fli 5x7's in the front and 6.5 inch in the rears so theres 100 quid of speakers in there aswell, But i'l probably take them out and put the standard Ford crappy paper jobs back in

turbines dont have centre caps iirc, yup most probs just zetec alloys but they do look well all the same,
as re: mk3 mondeos ive had a couple of 2.0 tdis iwouidnt have another there rubbish,
mk1 -mk2 mondeo was a much more reliable motor towards the mk 3 ..
