on my previous car (f reg e30 bmw) i wanted german style number plates. due to the legality of them and the font style, i chose against the german font but went for pressed alluminium plates which were refelctive. they really suited the car and added a little extra character to it. these were road legal, and the car passed its mot with them. i mounted them in black plastic BMW number plate holders with the BMW AUTOHAUS MUNCHEN slogan along the bottom.
can i do the same for my pug? do french plates have a special font type? are they plastic or metal plates? and finally, can i get numberplate surounds?

Re: french number plates
French cars now have white rear plates.
Technically, you need a UK font. NI regs used to be a bit less stringent, even car dealers used to sell with a "metro" bold font.
If it looks legible and close to the UK font, as that grey D8, I can't see too much of a problem.
The issue comes with people getting the likes of German plates, with German style numberplate stickers and the German font.
eg. | *D | S4:52RDB |
You might have issues travelling abroad, with French plates on a UK car.
Worst I saw were German plates on an X type. Perhaps a tedious link to Ford Europe? Also, Toledos seem to get them. "But they're really Golfs" would be the excuse.
Fancyplates.com sell numberplates over the net. I once got NI europlates but with UK font, got through MOTs ok.
