My daily commute is 88 miles each way :( The pug is doing well although at the moment its hemorrhaging fluids left right and centre (brake fluid from rear cylinders, coolant from either the lower hose where it goes into the back of the engine or water pump. If I can get those (and the knocking drop links, blowing exhaust, P.I.T.A starting) sorted, its saving grace would be that I can run it on veg. Although I did only pay 700 for it so wonder if its really worth it.

I do just over 50 miles a day in the commute. a little over 25 each way. No chance of "me" time as I car share. Well, I always drive with my car so they are just passengers. On the way home it's good to unwind and chat. But sometimes I'd rather be in silence with my thoughts.

I've been doing my 59 miles a day commute for almost 30 years now. (honestly thought this would do for a month or two until I found a proper job). In the early days, there were 3 of us, then 2, then just yours truly since 1995. It was convenient doing the turnabout car share thing because you didn't have to worry about the odd day off the road for your vehicle, but on balance I prefer travelling on my own.

i agree, strange though, i wouldnt want a hatchback because they are too small but still prefer driving my big saloon on my own, as i get to sing to myself, drive as i like, and just think. Of course i dont mind passengers, as long as their shoes are clean.

I used to lift share, 'twas only 15 mins each way but it was really good, the reason it worked was that we had a "no talking work in the car" rule. He was a properly clever bloke and a little bit eccentric so we had some really interesting convertations  . Quite miss it actually.

Bejesus, let's say you work 48 weeks per year @ 5 days/week multiplied by 59miles/day x 30 years = 424,800 miles

Convert the calculations from miles per gallon to days per gallon...
I know, I know. But a diesel 406 is meant do to lots of miles -- that's what I got it for, and its good at it. It seems a shame to spoil its fun. And I bet I can look forward problems like condensation and flat batteries, typical of doing only short journeys.

I've moved to Basingstoke, which is also more convenient for stalking you and your sexy leather seats :cheesy:

Actually there's something to be said for working a reasonable distance from home as, on the way home, you can kinda unwind and forget about work BEFORE you walk through the door. My old 3-mile jaunt used to only take 6 or 7 minutes sometimes and it wasn't really 'enough' :|
zacly. 30 miles is a sizable gap and long enough to get into something on the radio or through most of a CD. 10 miles is barely enough to get the car warmed up, it feels like the journey has ended before its properly begun.
