Dont throw the cat in the bin..

Post by markyp130 »

This is the last time iam throwing my cat in the bin... I replaced the leaking cat on my car last weekend ,and on monday took it with some rubbish to the local recycling centre. I know old cats are worth something but was having a tidy up and just wanted it gone, But browsing ebay for 406 bits as you do i found a scrap peugeot 406 cat locally for sale and the bidding is already at £40 with £13 delivery :o . The new cat was only £73 delivered, so as with all cats do throw them in the bin. The ebay listing number is 170598615333 sorry not sure how it place a link!! I will have to ask the kids

instead of turning scrap metal into something useful they make it into scrap again in the form of an outdated rover.

When I first read the thread title, I thought of this

As for Chinese metal:

Not Rovers, but "Roewes". Actually pronounced "Rong-wei".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roewe

Badge is the same shape as a Rover longboat, but is a checkered design with a lion and an R.

Tata, who own Jag / Land Rover own the name "Rover". Rumours abound that they will use the name as a sub-brand for cheap Jags (similar to the rumour that Pug will use Talbot to sell old 206s and 407s when the 508 arrives).

While not a treehugger, I am a fan of recycling. Don't like wasting anything. Might as well make another car rather than burying it in some landfill.

Mine doesn't either. :P following a sympathetic conversion using a large hammer.....

FWIW, the cat element was almost entirely ceramic, having a fine wire screen stuck on the exit end of the honeycomb - this, I imagine was steel or similar, plated with something more pricey. It couldn't have weighed more than an ounce or so.

Think I've got some pics - I'll post them later, if I can find them.

On the throwing stuff out issue, i am guilty of hoarding stuff, that includes the top of broken bolts, broken plastic trim pieces etc, they come in handy some time. I also pulled a box full of switches and plugs out of a skip an electrician had, he said take the stuff. I filed my boot, and now have a whole load of switches and plugs for a house.

But heres a fantastic use for an old engine block:

Imagine that, instead of a normal coffee table where you look at a boring slab of wood, you can look at the piston liners and oil and coolant channels.

Rowe? What does that mean? Why couldn't they call them "Fido" or "Spike"?
