I bought a 97 D8 today and the car came with a non button standard key, anyway ive just tried to lock the car up for the night and the only lock that works of the key is the boot lock, the driverside and passengerside locks won't turn to lock the car when I put the key in (I can lock all doors via central locking when I lock the door inside sitting inside the car with the doors shut)
Could I buy a replacement door lock and key from my local breakers yard and would it operate the central locking on the other doors? Not fussed about remote c/l or it having another key just to unlock it
I will have to do something soon as, as at the mo I can't lock the car without climbing out of the back door
cheers for any info
I assume the key works in the ignition!
Probably your cheapest option to grab the door barrels & key from a breakers. You might as well swap all of them, just wear a jacket with deep pockets!

I'm wondering why the previous owner didn't send you the remote key, unless they lived somewhere with no crime they must have been using it to lock the car. As far as I can remember you just need to nick the receiver out of another D8 along with the guts from the plip, and I think if it has a keypad it doesn't have the chip. Hmm, might be worth opening up the key you have to check if it has one...

Only from another D8. As Steve says you need the remote central locking ecu and the pcb from the key. If you've got the immobiliser keypad by your knee the donor car needs to be of the same ilk.
Be warned though; when disconnected from the battery for a while they can completely give up the ghost (as mine did ) and you'll never get it to work, bastard things

I was just thinking, the easiest way not to worry about that would be to take the chip out and glue it into the steering column shroud. Unfortunately this makes your car a bit easier to nick...
