Another Stupid Question

Post by Catflem »

I'm planning on stripping a load of bits and pieces from a Hdi in a scrapyard, my hdi is a 90, I've no idea what power the one in the scrap yard is. Is there an easy way to tell a 90 from a 110 ? (if its written on the engine cover - I know the engine cover is missing).

Presumably the diesel pump isn't interchangeable, but are the injectors and the rail interchangeable, maf sensor and cat ?

if its any bigget than a 90 it will have an intercooler next to the rad.

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Thanks guys for the rapid replies.

I'll check my car for the sticker tomorrow.

I know the rad has gone from the scrapper, hopefully (or not) the intercooler will still be there.

So thats identification sorted, does anyone know about interchangeabilty of the pump, injectors, maf and cat ?.

The 90s are also Bosch or Siemens. Looks like they were Bosch up to build 09106 (15th Oct 2001).

Obviously the less there is of the car the less easy it is to tell. Dead give-away would be the pipe across the top of the engine from the intercooler - compare 90 to 110 but if that's all missing then it starts getting hard. Unless the fuel pump has "Siemens" written on it you'll need to look at the exhaust - see cats below.

You do not want to see how many pumps there are  I really couldn't tell you what was what.

Cats - that's interesting, the Bosch has a cat on it, the Siemens doesn't   Both the 90's pipes have no joint on it after the cat, the 110's does. Obviously they're different.

Injectors - if it's Bosch then it looks like they're all the same. Siemens don't even seem to be listed anywhere.

MAF sensors are all the same.

You could also safely make off with the double relay that sits in the box with the ecu, the crank position sensor (if you can get to it), the throttle potentiometer and the camshaft position sensor. All of these are the same on all 406 2.0 HDis so there's no worries about compatibility.

Here's the injection calculator and sensors diagram for the 110 if you don't know where any of this is: http://peugeot406coupe.nl/catalogus/D9G/1/19G76A.HTM

Happy hunting!

Also Bosch systems have in-tank lift pumps, Siemens have a priming bulb, (like XUD's)

This is a 90bhp engine:

This is the 110bhp:

Easy way to tell is to look for the extra pipe between the engine & airbox which is the pipe from the intercooler. Used this trick to catch out several 307SW sellers who claimed to be selling 90bhp models which were actually 110s (fitted with the dreaded FAP).
