rear fog light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

rear fog light

Post by welshviking »

Hi , Been battling with a problem today my nearside rear fog light does not work, the offside one is fine. I obviously checked the bulb but there is no power to the fog light section of the cluster, i plugged the cluster into the offside and despite it being opposite the fog light bulb did light up so i know the cluster is ok. The car has had a tow bar fitted some time in the past and i checked all wires in the boot area but still no power to the fog light, i also checked the relay for the tow bar which is situated under the bonnet but again all looks ok. Its just a pure guess that the tow bar wiring is affecting the fog light as i cannot think of anything else it could be. Finally what number fuse is the rear fog lights as i one i was told was 19 and when i removed it the offside fog light was still on...i am hoping that each rear fog light has a separate fuse for each and thats the problem...but that would be too easy !!!!!

Just to add only 1 rear fog light is working (offside) seems to be no power to the nearside cluster. I found the fuse was no 19 (fuse was ok)
Regarding the photos found that fuse box photo in handbook needed to be upside down ( ) but still only one rear foglight working, im guessing the relay must be ok for one to be working, maybe a dodgy connection on the rear of the fuse box......ANY IDEAS PLEASE ??????

There is only a legal requirement for one fog light and that is to have the right hand side working.

You will find that there has not been any power sent to the left hand fog light, deliberately.

If you want it working, fix a live feed from the right hand fog light to the left hand fog light.

Mine doesn't work either.

Ahhh that would explain it, cannot understand why they deliberately cut the power though . No problem in running a live feed just need to know which colour wires are for the rear fog lights on both sides (haynes manual anyone :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: !!!!!! )...Many thanks for your help...Colin

R/hand fog light +ve = 210A (Pink), earth = M26B (Green/Yellow). Haynes doesn't show L/hand fog, (cos it's not connected).

IMO one rear fog is safer - less chance of someone not seeing your stoplights :D

All I had to do to get mine working was cut out the hole in the bulb holder to accept the bulb.
All of the wiring was already in place.
Maybe the estates were different but I doubt it.

Stick a bulb in it and see what happens.

Don't think there is a relay - try fuse 19, passenger fuse box.
