retro fit guide me home lights?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

retro fit guide me home lights?

is there anyway of putting a timer onto headlights in a d9 so they stay on like guide me home lights in newer cars?
cant find anything on here about them.

there is a way to anything mate,

but im guessing that will be hard..

my mate has a golf . his does it. i know what you mean . isnt it gonna be part of the cambus system..

There's no built in way of doing it, you'd need to rig up some sort of timer circuit to trigger when the ignition is off.

Seems like it's a function of the later BSI. Seems the early D9 BSI was a far simpler affair. All right for some :roll:

Search Google or ebay for a 12 volt timer circuit? I've got no schematics for the early BSI or anything so your safest bet would be to use two changeover relays so there's no way you can feed voltage back into the system.

Hello, after the footwell lights im ready to suggest another wacky circuit solution:

thats a relay, wirelessy controlled through a remote fob, it turns on the lights for a specific amount of time depending on what you set the resistor on the circuit, i would imagine it being very easy to fit. Just get a + and - from the battery, then wire it into the circuit, also put the same + into the C pin of the relay and then send the power to the lights from the output pin. Simples.

but this company quasar electronics has a load of circuits that could do your job, but basically you want a timer to start once you press a button, the timer needs to turn on a relay for that set interval then turn them off again when the time expires.

But my D9 has this feature built in, take out the keys flick full beam on and they are activated for about 30 seconds.

hey ive had no problems with the footwell lights this second time using the circuit. As long as its wired up right theres nothing to worry about.

Hold on right there. Footwell lighting is very cool, and a nice little add-on to the car. What you're dealing with now are critical safety components of your car, namely your headlamps. I really wouldn't do much in the way with those, being honest.

If your little PCB fails for your footwell lights then it's annoying but no biggie. If your PCB fails for your headlamps, then you're at best breaking the law driving at night, and at worst, you're gonna have an accident :shock:

Besides, if VOSA are dictating that aftermarket HIDs (professionally-installed using specially-developed parts designed to last a long time) are an automatic MOT fail nowadays, then your solution is almost certainly going to be right out the window.

I'm all for adding neat little features on cars, but when it comes to legalities and crucial safety devices, then that's where I personally draw the line.

it cant be illegal if its already installed factory ready in my D9. Im just discussing some solutions that i thought about getting before i actually got the car as i thought it didnt have it and my fiat did.
But that wireless thing is meerly a wireless switch, the relay will only send power to the headlights, of course you would need an inline fuse before they go to the bulbs, but all it would do is power the lights when the car is off for about 60 seconds, if the relay fails again its just a niggle because you still will have the normal power supply to the headlights from the stalks.
I wouldnt install this on a com2000 car, because it already has it, and also because of the mad electrics you could upset.

Alternativley, if your going to be very paranoid, buy a big million candle torch with remote activation, put it up on the dash and turn it off when you get to your door.

It makes you wonder how people got from their car to their front door for the first hundred years or so of motoring. Luck?

I have to say that the Volvo has 'follow me home' and 'approach' lighting, both of which can be time-adjusted from the cars 'Infotainment module' and both of which I have never had the need to use in 2 years of ownership :roll: when you take the ignition key out you give the main beam stalk a 'flash' and that enables the timed count-down :|

Actually there was a time I went to use them for real.......I had already left and locked the car but thought the window of opportunity was still there for a quick flash....oh no....I had to go through the whole leaving process again; key in, key out, flash, lock,..... by which time I looked a right numpty and my fellow passengers had found there way about just fine (using their eyes apparently :roll: ) :oops:

In my opinion though if you park somewhere sooooo dark that you need the headlights on for 30/60 seconds when you disembark then A) you shouldn't be there and B) what happens when the light goes out :shock: :supafrisk:

how did we manage, i dont know, are they really necessary ive used them to ensure the key went into the door, but really its never really that dark outside that you cant see, out here in the country its still acceptable, if your in the town you have no need at all for find me home lights.
Anyhow i have gave 2 options if you do want to retro fit them.
