Option 3 - stick a PIR on your house

My 406 had them,hold the main beam on for a few seconds and switch the engine off.Stayed on about 15 seconds I think.

Itried mine for the first time earlier - stopped the engine, removed the key and flashed the lights, the headlamps came on for about a minute (accompanied by me standing there watching and wondering if they'd ever go off or if I'd broken something )

From the handbook:

Follow me Home
When there is a low level of brightness
or at night, if you leave your
vehicle, the side lights and the
dipped beam lights may remain on
for approximately one minute.
To do this:
place the lights stalk in the AUTO
position,
place the key in the accessories
position (first notch on key),
press the end of the lights stalk for
more than two seconds, (which puts the automatic lights on)
place the lights stalk in the
0 position,
flash the headlamps,
get out of the car and lock it.

Hmm, that's as clear as mud

just flick the full beam on when you take the key out, then they come on.
My fiat had a more sophisticated form of follow one home lights (yes a fiat has something more sophisticated for a change) first flick got 30 seconds, second got 60 seconds, 3rd 120 and so on until 270 seconds i believe, and flick it after 270 and it turns them off. It was quite good, and all this on the bog standard active model, it even displayed this on the mileometer and counted down.

There's a far easier and cheaper solution - stick a mini maglite on your keyring.

I lived in a very remote area (nearest neighbour was half a mile away) and the mini maglite proved to be invaluable over the years.

is there anyway of putting a timer onto headlights in a d9 so they stay on like guide me home lights in newer cars?
cant find anything on here about them.

It`d be easier to have an outside light (or two) with a motion /infra red detector .

ok think im going to leave this alone now haha. as much as i would like guide me home lights im not electronically confident so dont want to tackle this.
