anyhow is this always a head gasket?

Not necessarily, it could just be condensation - this time of year everything's damp and if it's only doing short journeys it'll not get a chance to warm up thoroughly and boil it off. Take it for a nice thrash down the motorway.

Or you could scrape it out add chopped egg to it and make a butty !! :twisted:

As steve says condensation , had a granada that used to suffer from this because of
short journey's after some long trips it used to clear , iirc i fitted a different
thermostat that made it run a little hotter and that helped a lot .

yip this thing is the typical to the shops and back sort of car, never ventures more than 10 miles from home a day.
