Strangeness

Here's what happened:

The key button wouldn't unlock the car, so I had to unlock it by putting the key in the door.
The immobiliser light, engine management light, and parking brake light were on.
Put the key in and turned it, cranked but wouldn't start.
MFD was squeaking but not on, nor was the climate control display.
Those three lights stayed on when I took the key out.
I put the key back in, and tried again, and left it in position 1, still with those three lights on.

I took the handbrake off and put my foot on the brake pedal. The three lights went out and the battery light came on. The car started.

Now the ABS light is on solid and I get "ABS brake system defective" on the MFD.

Maybe the footwell connectors or the bsi has got its knickers in a twist.

footwell carpets are dry, but there was very heavy rain on sunday and I had lots of condensation on monday.

I'd pull the connectors apart anyway and check for any corrosion.
I've also heard of the ignition barrel going faulty and causing weird goings on, may be worth having a search on related topics.

have you checked carpets underneith ?

mine apear to be bone dry on the top but underneith was piss wet through before i stoped water getting in through boot.

That's right, under the carpets there's a layer of foam (read: it's a bloody sponge, perfect for soaking up water) in which there are some critical electrical connectors.

Well bloody done Peugeot, absolute genius.

ye i changed a carpet in a D9. from what i can remember it was bloody thick as well..

4-5 inchs of sponge

Next question: How do you get the carpet up?

The carpet goes underneath a plastic bit. The plastic bit has a screw in it, but removing the screw doesn't seem to loosen anything.

(It did unlock on the button this time though. But now its raining again )

(Peugeot replaced the key ignition aerial last December.)

Come to think of it maybe this has been on the cards for a while?

Haynes for D8: the seal pulls off, then two screws further forward which also go through the plastic moulding ar the righr of the pedals need to come out, then it "unclips" i.e., pull it as hard as you can and hope it doesn't break.

In the mean time, parking with the handbrake off seems to keep it happy.

just unclip the side trim along the sills mate ...

there is a torx bolt at the front on the bit that goes up towards the bonnet release catch ..

T20 . the side bits on the sills just clip off . give um a good pull and they will come off

OK, I can get the clips out (prise the plastic up against the sill from outside the car) but I can't get the top of it out where it goes up behind the bonnet release and the underneath of the dashboard. Just pull? (It hurts my delicate office-working fingers )

I seem to be getting a lot of water appearing here:



I've tucked a paper towel into the inside of the metal lip; so far its still dry.

It rained very heavily today and now my paper towel is soaked, so there is definitely a leak here

Candidates:

• large gap at top of windscreen between door/windscreen side rubber and windscreen top rubber
• gap between bottom corner of windscreen and plastic

ive that gap at the top as well im going to seal it water comes down it through the a pillar
