radio signal

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I think it's something to do with R/F shielding on the built-in amp on the HU. On the standard HU, it's a P.O.S. - on a decent aftermarket unit, the HU is better shielded and suffers from less interference, leading to a better-quality signal. The amp itself is typically better on most aftermarket HUs.

I'm still waiting for a bit of decent weather so I can put my Sony HU in the Coupe; as the Sony HU won't be using its amp (I'm using phono-to-ISO blocks to take the pre-outs from the HU to the ISO block wiring to the JBL amp in the boot), I'll be expecting some interference.

I don't have a ground loop isolator though - I am expecting to get noise from the alternator without this. If it doesn't cause any excessive noise, then I'll not buy a GLI, if it does, then I will.

wow there was quite a few acronyms in there.
But if you like the standard radio you can get a signal booster, it needs a power supply and plugs into the aeriel and boosts it. I found signal improved but the quality of the radio stations was rubbish.
