Engine mounts

Post by hammerman »

Well,i called in to my firms work shop tonight & put my car over the inspection pit.As i thought, the rear engine mount has gone.I can get my finger in the gap where the rubber should be
How many mounts are there???I can see the one next to the cambelt ob the top,one above the gearbox & the rear mount.I only ask because upon ringing around for a replacement i was told there was 2 on the back.£6,or £24,so quite a difference. But i can only see 1 rear mount.
Unless the cheaper price is for just the rubber mount, where as the £24 is the whole mount inc the bracket.Reading my haynes manual it would seem to suggest that when you strip the mount down you can remove just the rubber piece that fits into the metal bracket. Its this right or has the whole mounting bracket & driveshaft got to come out???
I have done a bit of searching on here, but i have to do a new search everytime i look at a page,as if i try to page back to the results,it says page has expired.Maybe a forum issue?
Many thanks :)

bottom mount needs bracket and driveshaft off.

then a machine to put the new bush in. (i think jasper on this forum told me this)

Yeah, the best way to change the lower mount is to take out the o/s driveshaft and remove the whole bracket then get the new one pressed in with a hydraulic press.

Some people have made their own tool to pull out the old bush with a large bolt and strong plates.

My mate has just bought a special tool for changing different types of bushes, but it cost £80, fine if you work in a garage, but not practical for the average diy person.

I have access to a garage but i'm mobile, if you can get anywhere near my place on friday afternoon, i'm working for my neighbour.

I'm in Liverpool tomorrow morning.

I'll look at it for you by arrangement anytime.
