How2 - Wire a D8 Outside Temp Display up

Post by Gary406 »

1st job is to source a temp display and a temparature probe.. the probe is about £20 from dealer
which looks like this :arrowd:
Image

the temp display simply wires up to the time clock with 3 small wires .

ok on the time clock there is 4 wires (all are numbered) 1 to 4
on the plug for the temperature display there are about 10 or so. but ignore half of them (again they are all numbered)very small but you will see

3 wires is all you need to link the time clock to the temperature display

wire 2 on the time clock goes to wire 2 on the temp display
wire 3 on the time clock goes to wire 3 on the temp display
wire 4 on the time clock goes to wire 5 on the temp display

them 3 steps will give you power to the temp display and it will even dim with the time clock when you turn extrior lights on

the temperature probe that can go anywere you like as long as its outside (but is located in passanger wing mirrors as standard)
the temperature probe connects to wires 6 and 7 on the back of the temperature display .

i will locate my temp probe in the front wheel arch liner. basically inside the front bumper away from wind blast and any heat off the engine

Good write-up. Trouble is as more and more topics get posted it will become harder to find for those who want it. But if we had a seperate 'how to' section for this kind of thing then they would be easier to find.
It may only be 12V but it's the amphere that kills you!
