Anybody any good with tv's???

Post by plod »

On the off chance someone is good with tv's i'll ask away

I bought a second hand Sanyo 42" plasma tv about a month ago
Model is CE42FD81-B

It had a fault when I bought it, which was if you switched it off, I was told it could take up to 10 mins for it to come on, and previous owner advised me to keep it on standby when not in use and it would then be fine.

A couple of weeks after having it, I couldn't get it out of standby mode, and on the off chance replaced the batteries within the remote and voila, it was fine until this morning.
Will not come out of standby again - took another set of batteries out of the remote in the bedroom, which we used this morning so know they are ok, but no joy.

Any ideas from anybody in the know?
Tried googling, but not much info for this model out there

Just the remote gone up the swannie

Was worried it was the power board, as a lot of the AV forums seem to point this way as main source of failure

Managed to turn it on via the sky remote

Had the remote apart and the light wasn't lighting up when a button was pressed
So ordered a replacement one from Amazon for £11.97

i know a simple test to check if the infa red is working on a remote controll ///

if you have a mobil phone with a camera or a webcam . switch it on. hold the remote controlls infa red point in front of the camera and press the button ..

of course you need to be looking at the screen of the camera.

and you can see the infa red with the eye

Bugger :( Did you have a Google to see if it's a common fault?

This model comes up with just two results on google

Sanyo plasma tv's in general can be half a dozen things

Shame, some times you come up trumps
Like when the dvd recorder went south, a quick google search revealed it to be a £15 part in the power board

Tried a few times this morning, and the light goes out but comes back on again

It was mentioned on the rc forum, the tv could be struggling to generate enough spark to kick the tv out of standby mode

As we have tried a number of times this morning and the light goes out and back on again, i'm thinking this could be favourite for the reason why it's not working

Or perhaps it's detecting a fault and going back to stand by :?

Did you see the class action stuff?

Ooh, that's a familiar subject heading, hmm, remote control cars... :cheesy:

How old is the telly?

Try phoning Sanyo's customer support and see if there's been any product recalls on that model, or any common faults that would cause that issue.

Here are 4 pictures of my power board

I can't see any bulging capacitors, but I don't know whether this is normal as I have little knowledge in this field, but it looks as if someone has "man monk'd" on the board ( No, it wasn't me woot )
