Wiki

Post by highlander »

Hey guys,

Now the Wiki is back up and running again, I've been trying to add new stuff to it.

I have been editing the "Wheels" -> "Rims" article to show all the different types of alloy wheel Peugeot fitted to the 406 range, and I've found a whole bunch of information there. Can anyone who has Vulcan alloys take a good photo of one of them and pass it on to me? I'll upload it to the Wiki.

I also put some information in about the EW12 J4 engine, and included a photo. I'm looking to put information up about the other types of engine in the 406 range, but I need good photos of pretty much all the other types of engine in the range. Again, if some kind souls could give good photos of their engines (and let me know which engine it is), I'll upload the photos and try to create good pages about each engines.

I will also be looking at the KB section on these forums and linking from the Wiki to these articles.

Also, does anyone have any information about gearboxes, i.e. which gearboxes are married to each type of engine across the 406 range? This might be good info to put in to the Wiki.

Finally, I'd also like to mention the Wiki over in the 406 Coupe Club forums - I've put some Coupe-related information in to the Wiki, and we might get some more info from Coupe Club members too.

Cheers
Graeme

The engine/gearbox stuff is on Service Box although it's not very clear. Also, some engines have either cable or hydraulic clutches and it doesn't necessarily follow which gearbox they have.

Oh, and I appear to have hobbled myself in a bizarre wood chopping accident. It just goes to show that the blunt end of an axe can be just as painful as the sharp end if you bosh yourself on the knee with it

Service Box is full of useful stuff, true, but as you say, finding it is a bit of a bugger sometimes. The Wiki ought to help clarify this information by presenting it in a more clear format.

Also, take a peek at the "Paint" section (under Bodywork) - I have names/photos/paint codes for all the Coupe models, but I don't have a list of all the available colours for the saloons/estates.

Some of the colours I have found the names of, but no pictures - so no idea if these are actually colours applied to 406s or to other Pugs.

More information, and more photos, are needed!

Paint codes, there's another minefield :?

At least the gas you get is reliable and reasonably priced, the stuff here is extremely expensive - Gazprom put the prices up last autumn as a casual poke in the eye for everyone that had enough of the extortionate price of heating oil and converted to gas last year - and at any time Crazy Ivan could turn it off entirely if he gets the hump with any of the other countries fed by the same pipe.

I've now experienced both ends of the axe head, a few years back I was kneeling down chopping wood for kindling with a hatchet and managed to stick it in my knee. Claret running down my leg I stumbled down the garden and called my wife, she came rushing out and at that point I fainted. Her sister took me to hospital where I received 1 (yes that's ONE) stitch   (but it was without anaesthetic :supafrisk: ). Ruined a good pair of trousers too.

Well, I've had a stab at the gearbox thing but the first thing I found is the filters don't work, it still brings up all the gearboxes and both clutches whatever engine I put into the filter, so the only way I can do it is with my meagre list of VINS. It's not very well formatted but I'm sure something can be done about that, and if anyone finds something wrong please just copy the post and modify as needed.

1.8 XU7JP BE3 Cable clutch
1.8 XU7JB BE3 CC
1.8 XU7JP4 BE3 CC
2.0 BE3 CC
2.0 Turbo ML5T HC
2.9 ML5T HC

1.9 BE3 CC
2.1 ML5T HC

D9
1.8 EW7J4 BE4 HC
1.8 EW7JP4 BE3 CC
2.0 BE4 HC
2.2 ML5C HC
2.9 ML5T/? HC

2.0 90 BE4R HC
2.0 110 ML5T/C HC
2.2 136 ML5? HC

More problems - at some point the gearboxes went from BE3 to BE3R but I'm not sure how important it is, seeing as the only safe way of making sure you get the right replacement gearbox would be to get one off a car with the same engine and approx. built the same time. The ML5s went from T to C at some point too, I've no idea if it makes any difference to fitting the things but I do know they change the synchromesh springs from individual coil springs to a single spring ring.

CC = Cable Clutch

Does HC mean Hydraulic? If not, please let me know

Also, which of these are manual and which are automatic gearboxes?

It do indeed.

They're all manual, again the filter doesn't filter the auto boxes and I have very few VINs, in fact I have 1 automatic, it's a D8 V6 saloon and it has a 4HP20, so I didn't think that would be such a good representation.

In fact, I was hoping if I had enough VINs I'd be able out how to make them and be able to find anything I wanted to know, for example when they stopped making D8s and started making D9s and anything that exists in between (i.e. D8.5). I've tried making up my own VINs and got nowhere :frown: so I presume the numbers on the VINs aren't sequential.

whats going on here, are you saving 406 wiring diagrams as a family heirloom similar to the gold watch in pulp fiction. They must be just as valuable as a gold watch.
Anyhow is there a link to this wiki?

No swear filter necessary, that was purely DIY  I even think the swear filter would have missed all of those
