rear hub and attached other bits and bobs

Post by rachybabe »

Hi all,
as a follow up to a question I asked a couple of weeks ago, with regaed to changing the reluctor rings for the ABS.
I've discoverd that on the rear of my 406 hdi 2.0 estate, one of the pick up ABS sensors is broken of due to the hand brake shoes coming adrift, which was caused by the spring twist screw not able to keep the shoes in place as the back plate are rotten, in short they are all a mess.
So I have managed to cobble it all back together using new disc drums and shoes, all is working fine, except ABS, I carn't get the old sensor out as the retaining bolt is rotten, so I need to do a rebuild on each side, now I know that you carn't just take the hubs off to do the reluctor rings without having to use new bearings (I think?)

I can get from the scrapers, a rear hub, back plate and all the other bits and bobs for £15.00 all in good nick and thus just swap the whole lot over, using my new disk/drums etc.
but my question is, are the rear running bits on a 406 saloon the same as the estate or is there any differance and if so what.

any help would be appreciated, and sorry for the long winded explination but want to give full picture of the thing. also anyone know where I cn get brake backing disks from or is it dealer(ouch) only

regards rachel

There's no difference that I can think of, apart from spring rates and possibly the shocks.

That sounds like a pretty good solution to me. If you want the back plates they're about 90 quid a piece from Peugeot (not the most ludicrous price I've seen either), or collar the resident breaker ade1122 over on the coupé club, he sells them for 20 quid a side, he's also on ebay.

thanks for the reply, I think they are the same, dont need the shocs etc, just the complete hub and casting, should be able to get away with undoing the mounting bolt's and bobs ya uncle, (I hope)
