No suit - thankfully I don't have to wear one for my job. I hate 'em! :cheesy:
steve_earwig wrote:Rust on an exhaust join? That's just preposterous because most exhausts are just made out of mild steel and rust is all they're good at. If it was blowing significantly (read that as "in reality") they'd have failed you on it. Wait for it to fall off, then get a Flowerpoe.
Hmm, you're right there - mild steel = cheap shite. Mild steel + Peugeot = cheap shite that costs shitloads.

Will wait til later in the year and look at stainless exhausts as I was thinking about getting that done anyway - I do miss the nice burbling I got on idle on the old saloon.

I actually suspect the car was fitted with the exhaust from a 2.2 HDi when it was replaced by the previous owners - the tailpipe curves down at the end and I seem to recall seeing something on here saying that's how you figure out whether a Pug is a diesel or a petrol at-a-glance.
steve_earwig wrote:I'd check out the corrosion on the brake lines, that could actually be a real issue. Doubtful though, given the rest.
They replaced the front-to-rear brake lines as part of the repairs required for the MOT pass.
steve_earwig wrote:Both subframes on my D8 were covered in surface rust, they didn't show any sign of weakening but you can give them a scrub with a wire brush and a dollop of underseal if you're worried about it.
I'm told they're actually galvanized (on the Coupe, at least - no idea about the saloon/estates though) so rust on these shouldn't happen... Probably just clad in dirt. I don't think I'm going back to that garage, ever. I only went there because they were the cheapest for the cambelt change.
steve_earwig wrote:Anti-roll bars might be a traditional drop link.
Probably; I know they're made of chocolate, and pretty cheap (which is good).
steve_earwig wrote:Sticky bearing - top bearing?
That's the one. Tatsfield on the CC forums said that when this seizes up, then you hear a "twang" when turning the wheel to full lock. No sign of that yet, so I'm just going to leave it until it twangs (unless this is a horrendously bad idea).

Thanks everyone, I actually feel much better about this now. I'm getting no more done at that garage. I'll wait til month's end and get the throttle body done at Overton's garage (they are more conveniently located, but higher on labour charges - but I do trust them to do a good job).

Next on my list is getting the old saloon through MOT so she is actually sellable. I need to pass her on before the road tax expires (end April)

For the top bearings I remember Jasper saying jack the front up, get someone to turn the wheels from lock to lock and watch for any jerkyness (not sure if it would be so apparent without the weight of the car on them so watch closely) Twangyness is when the bearings have finally disintegrated resulting in unpredictable handling so it's probably best to sort them before this happens because it's bound to happen when you're skint and need the car...

Can only really be the back box, (unless someone's installed a FAP etc).
I reckon they're all virtually indentical anyway, (the different versions for saloon, estate and coupe only have slightly different lengths of tailpipe).

If the terms of your Powerflo advertising contract dictate that you have to change it, one of us may be able to help you 'recycle' it.

If I had even the slightest notion of what the hell I was doing, I might be tempted to do just that :cheesy:
