i keep loosing boost, i've changed the boost control valve so its not that ? and when it does boost it over boosts to just over 1bar (not good) so i need to get to the bottom of this.

sounds like it may be the wastegate sticking, ie sticking open giving low boost, then sticking shut and overboosting, best way to check is to remove to actuator rod from the wastegate (get a new "C" clip first though, unless you know the old one is not corroded as they usually turn to dust when you try and take them off)
The wastegate should open and close easily (feels loose) with your fingers. if its not loose theres your problem, try WD40 to free it off and it should be okay.

Okay then, how did the actuator feel when you had that off?

That doesn't sound good you should be able to move it by hand, they are not a particularly strong actuator.

you might have to make your own bracket though. Unless they list one for the 406. But still worth doing as the standard one is pants.
