HELP TOTAL SEIZURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by trem1 »

my cars f*cked. I was out today on a day out with the family driving in the countryside without any problems until i deciced to drive through a ford(you know small river type) water was about six to ten inches deep so not too bad i thought, two thirds of the way through car started acting up just as i was emerging there was a strange clicking noise and no power at all. engine stoppes twice which i restarted but didnt sound right very strange clicking not vroom vroom noise then it stopped and it now just clicks as if starter stuck.i tried putting it in 2nd gear and rocking it back and forth its seized solid .it showed no signs of a problem as in no warning lights ,no high temperature nothing but it appears to be seized solid

any ideas
would be great

cheers lads

i am afraid your engine will of had it, conrods will be bent, will need a new motor.

Seen this quite a lot, peugeots, 406, 306 have low air-intake pickups, hence you can not go in deep water.
Most people if insured Comprehensive went through their insurance.

Just a simple question, but did you check the air box or intake manifold for water ? did you check the dipstick for mayo like colour oil ?

I doubt that it would be water contamination / seizure if there are no signs of water ingression in the engine... did you manage to get the car towed back to your place ? what checks have you done ?

no checks made because the cars stuck in a field about 40 mile or so away from home, thought about getting a tow of my son but he only got a 1.1 206 so it would probably kill that as well, all i can do is keep my fingers crossed and get it home as soon/cheap as i can

god i hope none of you lot ever feel as bad as i do right now

is it feasable that the cylinder/s could be full of water which wont compress, could that give the impression of a seized engine????

Its possible, thats how you bend your conrods. My Dad did it a few years ago in his Merc, wasn't best impressed

Take off the coil pack and take out all the spark plugs, then turn it over on the starter motor... if it won't turn over that way, you have a major mechanical failure and it's rebuild time. If it will turn over, put some clean rags down the spark plug holes and crank it for a while to soak up as much water out of the cylinders as possible, then refit plugs and coil pack and keep trying to start it. It'll take a while but eventually it'll run on all 4 cylinders.

Get it home, then immediately do an oil and filter change cos your oil will be contaminated. The service centre which is part of my local Hellfrauds did me a 15W40 semi-synth oil and filter change for £36.50 last week when I gave mine a service so it's not too expensive.
