Re: Antipollution fault /rattle/tapping noise - Help require
Got a new relay off ebay. Won it Monday, arrived morning post today. Won it for an amazing
price of £15 including postage.
Fitted new relay this afternoon. Still have the same problem. From cold will running normally
for 5 minutes then get the anti pollution fault then goes into Limp Mode.
Someone mentioned possible fuse related issue, any idea which fuse and what checks I can do
before replacing the glow plugs.
Thanks for the help so far.

That doesn't even sound like a glow plug issue, more like a temperature issue.

Re: Antipollution fault /rattle/tapping noise - Help require
As Steve says, the above problem is unlikley to be the cause - a healthy HDi would probably start & run OK in the current weather if the glow plugs didn't work at all. They would definetly have turned off long before the 5 minutes you mention.paulb2004uk wrote:Diagnostics showd Post Heating relay and glow plugs require further investigating
No code given to me
When it cuts out, will it restart? always?
Do you know if your lift pump is running all the time?

Re: Antipollution fault /rattle/tapping noise - Help require
The car never cuts out, just goes into Limp Mode. If I switch the ignition off it always restarts.
Only in really cold weather did it have a problem, but even then would start 2nd or 3rd turn of the
key. The glow plug light does come on briefly in very cold weather.
Where is the lift pump and how can I tell its running

In the fuel tank, under the back seat. If you turn the ignition on and listen carefully, you should hear it run for about 4-5 seconds.paulb2004uk wrote:Where is the lift pump and how can I tell its running
(Not all HDi 90's have them, only Bosch equipped cars. Ones with Siemens systems don't have a lift pump, but have a priming bulb on the fuel line to the filter. I think only later cars have Siemens - look for the priming bulb or manufacturer's name on the high pressure pump).
Anyway, apologies, I misunderstood your earlier post, thinking your car was cutting out rather than displaying the fault / going into limp mode.

I think this might be a case of either replace every component one at a time until the fault clears or get the codes read...

Have checked under the bonnet, I have a priming bulb there.

OK, no lift pump then.
As Steve says, you really need to get a proper diagnosis - HDi's won't talk properly to most diagnostic setups, you really need the manufacturer's (Peugeot Planet 2000), or possibly some of the top end professional kit. Some of the other stuff will display some of the fault codes, but usually won't give you a proper description.

Re: Antipollution fault /rattle/tapping noise - Help require
Hi
Peugeot Diags comes back with permanent fault with Post heating relay and glow plugs.
Have replaces relay (Green type) with a new one. Still goes into limp mode.
Have done continuity test. Wire from relay to glow plugs is ok.
Volt check show 6 volts on output connector of relay to glow plugs.
Any ideas where to check and why I'm only getting 6 volts. Other connector on relay has
12 volts.
Thanks for any advice given

I have been reading through this forum that I belong to and have read something about this in there....I'm sure I've read that the glow plugs were at fault, but have a look in here.....http://www.ilexa.co.uk/forum/ and select Peugeot/Citroen....I was looking for the p0230 code in another thread so input that in the search window and have a read.

Re: Antipollution fault /rattle/tapping noise - Help require
No doubt jasper's right and there will be valuable information relating to that fault code.
What puzzles me, is that I can't see a glow plug relay problem putting it into limp mode.
I would have expected the diagnostics to find something the ecu would want to protect the engine from, (like overheating, incorrect fuel pressure, or a faulty sensor).
It is possible the pre/post heating fault is a sympton of something else, (my previous Xsara HDi 90 cut out & diagnostics showed an egr circuit fault - what had really happened was the ecu had lost one the 12V supplies and couldn't energise the fuel pump relay, therefore it stopped - this supply also powers the egr valve, hence the confusing message).
Your testing seems to indicate a faulty relay, (despite changing it), if you're losing 6V. across the contacts, (might be worth measuring across the two connectors on the relay to confirm).
I use this set of diagrams http://www.petrila.net/pug/Service/index.htm
