Pissing about on compare the meerkat it looks like i can save about 40/50 quid if i have my voluntary excess set at 500 smackers instead of the 350 i would rather have it at.

Last year I was TPFT.
This year I went fully comprehensive with £250 excess which came out cheaper, but still a 35% increase. I wouldn't mind so much if I had a 35% pay rise.

Anyway, meercat came up with Hastings Direct quoting half the price, but I'm not sure I trust Hastings Direct so I paid up and stayed with NFU Mutual.

i dont pay voluntary excess .. dont see the point in having to fork out hundreds of pounds when im paying THEM hundreds to insure it . mine is 100 quid compulsory.

i also changed the last time i renewed in november to tpft from fully comp ,, insurance will pay out market value which on my car is 500 quid if that lol so i didnt see the point in fully comp ,after ya paid out compulsory plus any voluntary its not worth it for me personally ,also something to bear in mind

Oh yeah forgot about the compulsory excess of 1 bar so a total of 600 notes to give if the worst happens. Nah 350 quid is the highest im going.

I'm looking for a new insurer this year

I was paying just over £625 with the 10% charge for credit, so maybe 570 odd, and the excess was 350 for at fault claims, and 150 for fire or theft

I hadn't told them about the zorst, so decided to come clean, and asked them to drop my mileage from 12k to 8k
They wanted £800 odd plus an increase in excess to 575 - WTF!!!!
They asked me if I'd be renewing, and I said it's highly unlikely

Best on price comparison websites was £635

With these price comparison websites, you sign up to agree to the best one or two being able to contact you

One of them did and they came in at £564.50 with a £350 excess

Also contacted Chris Knott and they rang me today and said they'd match the above - so it's either them or the above, being Performance Direct

Try putting your other half on the insurance - may work out cheaper. It did for me last year.

Just had a go at that CJ. just got a quote back 69 quid cheaper if i put my lass on it. Done deal. Not that she will ever know that she's insured to drive it

my mrs dont drive but could i put me mam on? even tho she dont live at the address the car is kept at?

Don't think so. Just aswell as my lass dosen't live with me It just asked for name, job title, how many years driving. This was done online.

yes but the idea of having a higher voluntry access makes the premium cheaper.

i think of it this way. if i crash my car now (my fault) i loose everything. with the price of old cars nowadays. so having a higher vol access is probably better for your pocket

even with a low voluntry access you will still end up loosing everything if the accident is your fault..
