Jamjar whilst looking at your brace I couldn't help noticing you seem to have some sort of nut/bolt fixing for your engine cover.....is it a home made fix..or can it it brought?

its a little job i did at work, simples long bolt 2 nuts a washer and a bit of fuel pipe i chopped down to use as a damper, the orignal one are like £18 trade to buy and they always break so for that reason and the fact that im as tight as a mouse's earhole i made my own for nout :lol: :lol: :lol:

jamjar is that an aftermarket type brace ? seen thos on ebay for like £80.

were did you come across that ?

yeah after market one bought it from 406 sri for £30

My strut brace doesn't fit! :(

Bought one from a coupe on eBay, bonnet will not close. I know some people have hammered the feck out of it, but mine's nowhere near it seems.

Saw the OMP one on eBay, but considering that's just a straight bar, would it even fit over the V6 anyway?

coxy fit the brace and hammer it down it will fit mate. my bonnet was sitting really high

it will go mate i guarantee it.

here is were i hit mine. it wont damage anything there as tuff as old houses mate.

i must admit at 1st it did seem like the brace was to tuff to even budge. but keep at it full wack with the lump hammer and it will go.
it feels like your gonna damage something the bar is that tuff. really go down on like hell

Hey guys,

My agreement with the hammer idea :) :

Yeah I fitted the coupe Strut brace to my estate also, no prob tho as i have my bonnet is raised 30mm at the rear. This was because when i fitted Koni adjustables and 300lb springs with 80mm drop, i found that the koni adjustables were actually not any shorter than the original struts, so i had to modify the strut top mounts by raising the centre part about 50mm, hence not allowing the bonnet to close.....

After the T**t now known as the third party destroyed my old car, i eventually found a replacement 2.2 estate, and started transplanting the mods to my new baby. :wink:

When i came to fit the strut brace, I had to fit it with the bolts slightly loose and heavily persuade it with my Hide/Copper Hammer (Hide Side) as it got bent upwards in the collision.

So yes they will bend down with a hammer if you hit them hard enough :cheesy: , and loosening the bolts allows the brace to spread it's feet as is it a slightly curved type.

Also the bolts that came with the brace were about 3mm longer than the originals (probably to allow for the 3mm thickness of the end plates), but the original bolts still penetrate the threads of the strut top mounts completely, and i've never had a problem with them loosening, even with the low stiff set up i have.
