Dreaded Side Air Bag Light

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dreaded Side Air Bag Light

Post by r1150gsclark »

Hi All,
I hope that somebody can shed some light on this, my 406 is a 99 D9 GLX, and suddenly this morning, my side airbag light decided to come on, now if you switch the ignition off, then on again, it clears in sequence after the main air bag light, then after 5 or so seconds, it comes on again. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the multi plugs under the driver seat, but the fault remains. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Is it definitely the side airbag light? Reason for asking is that I've only ever seen the side airbags fitted to 2000 (W) on models & you say you have a 99. Does it have the badge on the door side of the front seats?

I have the normal light saying 'Air Bag' and I also have a light showing a man sitting in a seat with a belt on and the airbag to the side of him, the seat backrest does not have 'Air Bag' on it, but I have a sticker down by the height adjust with 'Side Air Bag ' and 2 seats with occupants and air bags deployed. i hope this helps

The light definitely matches what I have in my car (but only when it does the quick check before starting), but the seat labelling is different. Mine (& most others) has an oval badge three quarters of the way up the side of the backrest. If the only light you're getting is the side airbag & not the main one, I'd say that points more to a fault with the bag itself or seat connectors/wiring still.

Problem sorted!! After taking both seats out for better access, found the passenger side airbag wiring in the seat was split, so solded it back together, reinstalled the seat, and voila!! :) Happy days!!
Thanks Waue1978 for your replies.
