The door vinyl on my D8 looks a little tatty and have searched on here and found people have removed it, and so I'd like to do the same.
Do you need to take any parts off of the car to do so?

Re: De-vinyl question
Have you got a saloon or estate? If you have a saloon, then it's relatively easy as you're only looking at the B pillar (between front & rear doors) & all you need to do is lift up the black trim at the bottom of the windows to get underneath it. If you have an estate, there's a little more work involved as you have the extra pillar behind the rear doors to contend with. I did that bit with the aid of a sharp stanley knife!

Re: De-vinyl question
no no dont just lift it, you would bend it. Theres a wee torx screw holds it in place from the other side, take it out, then lift it, i advise gently applying pressure in the middle of this bit of trim, if you pull it from the edge it can bend it. I just noticed that when breaking this car.
But with it off it just pulls away, then use a bit of thinners to clear away any sticky stuff, then get a bit of polish on and its good as new.

jamjar is right.
use a hairdryer get it nice and hot . and peel very very slowly.
wind windows down and pull rubbers out because the vinyl curls round the edge.
but if you do manage to do what jamjar did and peel the laquer off you could always redo them like i did

Re: De-vinyl question
what is the ebay search name for that bit of rubber that runs horizontally along the bottom of the window, mines a bit bubbly looking, even more so on my breaking car. Id like to get a pair of new ones for the front of the car.
As for peeling off the vynl, get a bit of thinners in the cap, peel it a bit and pour a bit down the corner let it sit and it should dissolve at the glue so more can come, its all about doing it slowly. I have done this on my fiat panda.

That little torx screw on the inside of the door isn't on all of them. I have it on my car, but when I was at a scrappy getting the bolts I needed to fit my split rear seat I went to take the window trim off of that estate & there was no torx screw on the inside. If you have the torx screw inside the door, then yes, undo that to remove the trim, otherwise, just lift it directly upwards.FarmerPug wrote:no no dont just lift it, you would bend it.
