I know how you all love my 406 and are clearly missing it greatly.
Well My Mum's decided to run it into the ground after all it failed it's MOT on was a split CV boot.
So today I got on and changed it
I bought a split boot which can be glued together to save me ripping everything apart.


So I got the wheel off (Jesus the wheel nuts where tight ) and noticed a distinct lack of room compared to my Focus...


Anyway I managed to cut the old boot off...


And cleaned up the CV joint itself...



I realised the arch liner was going to get in the way but every screw I tried to remove just founded off
So I used my engineering winsdom, screwed a hole in the arch lining and used some tie wraps to keep it out the way


Started gluing the new boot toagther...


Greased up the joint...


and on it went ...


So Phoned up my Mum to tell her the car was ready as she had my car. So she wanders in the house, and takes bernard, I go outside to have a look at my car and she's parked it like this...


Ah well... was nice to work on Beranrd again, will get him another 12 month ticket anyway

Interesting phenomenon this - ex 406 owners in different parts of the country having 2nd thoughts after migrating to either a Focus, or a vitual Focus.

What does that tell us?

I'll agree it does look like a tidy job, but I'll be interested to see how long it lasts. Last experience I had with the glue together CV boots was back on my Cav SRi 130 & it lasted less than a month before I took the plunge & got a proper one fitted.

Hopefully they've improved them over the last 10 years.

ye i once tried to fit one on my cavalier years ago.

i put the grease all over the place and it didnt stick ..

if you use the right glue and let it properly dry before using the car should think it will last long.

i think split cv boots are just a cheaper & faster solution to getting it through MOT

I had a Y-reg (1983) Cav SRi 1.8, it was supposed to have 115?bhp standard but a Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and full system and K&N filter gave it 130bhp (had it rolling roaded to prove).......that car was brill, used to love revving

Stupidly I sold it and bought my first (and last) brand new car.........a Peugeot 106 1.4diesel "Key West" - a trifle ghey now in the cold light of day

If you think that's bad a mate of mine bought a brand new Mini Metro, it lasted a month before the embarrassment of it had him give it to his mum.

I fitted one of those to my original Ashtray, this was when I'd not long moved out away from home and didn't have much in the way of tools. I changed it as soon as I could for a proper one but it seemed to be lasting ok, I think I'd keep an eye to it though...

I moved from the HDi to the 2.0 Honda Vtec Autobox. Lovely driving car, but already feeling the extra runs to the pump.

Bloody boot has popped off
Tie was pretty tight too. ?? Not sure what to do now. Should I just sick another tie on and hope for the best?

Oh bluddy hell That's all you can do, if that pops off too then it looks like the boot's not fit for purpose.

It fits perfect over the end of the CV joint, and the tie was bloody tight. Maybe I should glue it down too

I use a large jubilee clip on cv boots.

I come across broken clips all the time, a jubilee clip fixes them every time....except Mitsubishes....there isn't room for the clip next to the caliper.

Hmm... The boot came with cable ties and when I went to remove the old boot I found that was being held in place with cable ties

Might go in search of a mahoosive Jabalee clip then
