Knocking noise help

Post by Coxy »

Yesterday I attempted to fit a strut brace to my saloon and promptly discovered it will not fit. I know some people have battered it with a hammer but mine seemed too far off for that. Anyway I removed it and replaced the bolts.

Upon driving it to work I discovered a knocking noise coming from the area of the front right suspension. It occurs when I start to accellerate/decellerate, it doesn't continue or happen when at a onstant speed.

I had done nothing to the car other than remove the bolts, fit strut brace, remove struct brace and replace bolts.

Any ideas?

That is very likely the pear shaped rubber mount that the top engine mount sits over. It screws into the top of the wheel arch area, it can come loose and cause that knock.
You'll have to remove the top engine mount to get to it, pretty easy job :)
Pop a trolley jack under the engine to support it before you remove the mount, also check the rubbers on the top mount while you've got it off, these can tear.

did you tighten the 6 T50 torx bolts properly after you removed the strut brace.
make sure there very tight .
they can cause knocking if they are not tight 8)

Well I will double check the bolts first, failing that will move on to the first suggestion.

Anyone know the torque setting for these botls?

Thanks
