Re: Are you paying too much for your insurance?
insurance is a rip off just reinsured the pug and last year i pad £450 fully comp for me and the wife on a 1998 300tdi discovery es just had the renewal come through for the 406 after swapping it on the policy in jan and they are wanting £970 , and thats with a clean licence and full no claims for both of us
after a bit of arguing on the phone and being told the 406 was in a higher group than a discovery, with the new grouping system, wtf??? told them to shove it. rang Adrain Flux told them about the alloys and the planned mods told not a problem £ 430 so thats that sorted for 12 months

Re: Are you paying too much for your insurance?
The insurance on a 1.8 406 is more that a 3 litre Discovery? That's just insane
I've just been trying to look at these new insurance ratings, every link I find leads to Thatcham who need me to have an ABI group rating account (whatever that is) before I can see them. I guess if I'd f*cked something up that badly I'd want to keep it secret too

Re: Are you paying too much for your insurance?
Absurdity of British Insurers.
I'm trying to get a handle on this new grouping system, not only are there 50 groups now each group is further divided into 6 categories depending on level of security (see here - http://www.thatcham.org/research/index.jsp?page=198), so in fact there seems to be 300 actual ratings. And these are only guidelines, individual insurers don't even have to use them. What a pointless load of old bollocks.

Re: Are you paying too much for your insurance?
Here is the thing on the old system ie about a month ago i was simply unable to get a quote under £4k for my dads nissan primera, and the clios cheapest quote was £1300. Yet a diesel pug is cheaper. Its fecking madness.
But its good to see insurance prices will be made equal for both genders.

When (if) you come back to the UK the insurers will try to take the p*ss out of you again.steve_earwig wrote:We've already been there - yes, apparently they keep them for 3 years too. As far as I remember the last insurance I paid for ended in September 2008, so 2009, 2010, 2011, yes, they should be able to do that. If they had any record of it
When I left the UK I had 6 years NCB, I then insured with Axa in Germany for 2 years, and then Axa in France for a further 5 years, so I have 13 years NCB, and a spotlessly clean licence, so you'd think insurers would be queing up to take me on.
Axa UK refused to even accept "foreign" NCB, even when it was pointed out to them that it would be coming from their European partners. A lot of other insurers also refused European NCB. Direct Line did accept it, so I went with them.
All of the companies that refused to accept my NCB are now on my black list, they won't be getting a penny out of me in the future thats for sure

Re: Are you paying too much for your insurance?
what year does the classic cheap rate insurance kick in on a car.
Ive been thinking of putting the jeep on the road for a bit of a fun runabout. But i couldnt justify insurance if it was expensive for it. Against it, there is a new bigger engine in it, bigger tyres, and quite a few other changes.

Just been on Performance Direct website, and if I tell them about all the mods, it's £620 fully comp with protected NCB and legal cover
Direct Line want £760 odd without telling them about the map AND £575 XS compared to £350 for the above

Jesus, we're all knackered with these increasing costs
everything but everything is going up and we're not being paid any more money (less in my case now)
What are we supposed to do? spend all our evenings and weekends sitting in a dark corner, under a blanket, eating cold beans from a tin

I had an email from Performance Direct yesterday saying they could get my quote lower
Thought result
Was planning to ring them when finished work
They called me today
They asked if the quote of £579 was ok
I said, last quote was £620, are you sure you have all the details correct?
Went through, and they said they'd need to double check
Two hours later, they call me and tell me the price is actually £819!!!
