Hi,
I have just bought a 1999 406 HDI 110 exec estate to replace my 405 exec estate, Can anyone help with Phase 1-2-and 3 and D numbers that you use.
ie when did phase 1-2 and 3 start and finish what phase is my car registered 25/03/1999.
Also I bought this car as a project and first I need a drivers door in light green mettalic, all electric in Kent? any help is appreciated.

you can tell by the front grilles,
if its a slatted grille D8
if its a Honeycombe grille big puggy badged its d9
you can also tell off the rear lights,
if its got a colour coded strip in the middle of the lights its d9
d8s dont have that,

Hi Lozz,
Thanks for that Now I understand the D numbers. But mine has a slatted grille so must be right on the change over, thanks again

Unless you have an estate (which this fella has) which has the same rear lights on a D8 & D9, but a D9 has a chrome strip running along the top of the black plastic trim at the bottom of the tailgate whereas a D8 is just black plastic.lozz wrote:

But go by the grill & you'll still have your answer anyway.

Depends on your definition of a D8.5 I guesstrem1 wrote:dont forget about the d8.5, not many about but they are there, somewhere
Some say, it's the D9 rear end and a D8 front end
Personally I think it's any car that incorporates parts associated with both cars
The HDi engine was thought at one time to be D9 specific, but was in fact brought in Oct 98, 6 months before the D9
Thus we "could" say any HDi equipped D8 is a D8.5
My car for example, has the exterior of the D8, with the HDi engine, and the dashboard carcass of the D9, the D9 wing mirrors, and the D9 sunblind
Thus i'd class it as a D8.5

Re: 406 models/ years?
Mine has LX equipment with SE trim & Coupe wheels so does that make mine an LX.5? Or is it a SEL-X-pe.
