remove the black cover from the back of the headlight.
you will then see a white plastic thing sticking out behind the bulb. it should be at the bottom. slide this up to the top and it will pull out easy.

You need to twist the white extension stalk, then you can pull the bulb holder out of the headlight.
DO NOT just keep pulling at it, or you'll break the stalk and you'll need to pull the headlight to get access. Like me

I have tried pushing, pulling the white lever but the sidelight unit seems to stick in the headlight reflector.

It's a bayonet fitting, you have to turn the lever towards the top of the light, then it should pull out easily. If it's jammed in there I guess you'll have to extract the headlamp

extracting the headlight - easy or hard for a newbie ?steve_earwig wrote:It's a bayonet fitting, you have to turn the lever towards the top of the light, then it should pull out easily. If it's jammed in there I guess you'll have to extract the headlamp

There's a sort of guide here for the D9 - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13668 (ignore the spaghetti...) but yours is 1999, so it could be a D8, I had the headlamps out of my D8 but it was centuries ago and I can't remember how similar it was to this (I'm sure someone will tell you now)

mike to remove headlight there are 3 10 mil bolts holding it in 1 on the top ,1 in the inner wing and 1 at the bottom [near the center grill]
this is a pain to get to sometimes you can remove the gril land you can get to it easy.if you are near notts you can pop it round and il show you.

many thanks for that - not sure I'll attempt it - may be beyond my skill set.steve_earwig wrote:There's a sort of guide here for the D9 - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13668 (ignore the spaghetti...) but yours is 1999, so it could be a D8, I had the headlamps out of my D8 but it was centuries ago and I can't remember how similar it was to this (I'm sure someone will tell you now)
Just want to be sure I'm trying to change the right bulb - it's my sidelight which I think is contained in the unit with the white hexangonal screw on top. When I twist the unit it is loose but doesn't come out. The white lever is in the unit beside it.
Re: changing sidelight bulb on 406 LX DT Estate
Gary - have tried the white lever every way but still doesn't release unit -will try again tomorrow in better light but I think I may have broken the white lever !Gary406 wrote:mike you do not need to remove the headlamp. bloody hell![]()
