Hi

I had the same problem with my 406 hdi about a year ago it was losing a bit of antifreeze and i was having to top up the expansion tank about every couple of weeks. After checking all the hoses i narrowed it down to the radiator. So check your radiator look at the bottom of it for wetness and also look at the cooling fins for a cheesy mess. My radiator was wet all along the bottom and it looked cheesy along the cooling fins right at the bottom.

I cured mine by buying some k-seal at the motor factors (costs about £8.00 for a small bottle) add it in with the anti-freeze and hey presto problem solved. It sealed up the rad from inside. If you add it to the expansion bottle it will take a bit longer to circulate around the coolant system. If you can get it into the top hose it will work a bit quicker. I think at some point my 406 will need a new rad but im still on the original rad (car is nearly 11yrs old) so its not bad for a bodge.
The car doesn't overheat and temp guage never goes above 90 degrees so it works well.

You can get a new rad from from GSF or Eurocarparts for £80-£100. I think £8 is a reasonable price to pay for a quick fix. I keep a spare bottle of k-seal in the boot just in case. Hope that helps

Another leaky area is around the thermostat housing, the 'stat o-ring can get very manky with age.
