I had to buy a set of replacement pins.

FWIW I mangled / straightened / re-mangled 3 parallel punches before resorting to the drill.

Remove the button grid on the console. Will be tight, but you should just be able to reach with a long driver.

I dun this just the other day - use a quarter in drive with a long extension, pull the part of the handbrake surround at the back (goes up when you pull the handbrake lever up) all the way up, insert your weapon behind there and work it around the r/h side of the handbrake down to the nut.

so it just all unclips? not screws?

and ive done the rear discs/pads now, i had to slacken off the adjuster nut on the shoes, is it right leaving it as slack is it goes so the drum turns yh? and also i lost the little cotter pins but that shouldnt matter should it? the other pins are in ok and the clips back in

Unclips? Am I talking about the right thing here? I meant the nut on the end of the handbrake cable by the handbrake itself.

What cotter pins? If you mean the tiny R clips then I think someone (Highlander?) failed their mot by having one missing.

With the cables all loose and floppy fit the drums, then wind the adjusters out until they're just touching the drums. I belted mine about a bit with a rubber mallet so they were centralised. Then do the cable.

sorry i ment the handbrake console just unclips and pulls off? or does it have screws?

and i mean these Image

well i had to slacken off the adjuster to get the discs off, when i put the new disc on slackened off the adjuster so the disc moved freely and wasnt grinding, is this correct?

The bit at the back is hinged so when you pull the handbrake up it comes up too. All you do is pull it up so you can get the socket past the handbrake, no need to unclip or unscrew anything.

That's an R clip.

Just a slight rub is ok (ooh-err mrs).

so it will be ok with no R clip yh?

so my handbrake might be a bit lose now unless i tighten up the adjuster a bit more so it rubs?

it doesnt say on the How To Guide whether to slacken the adjuster so the drum turns with no rubbing at all or not, dont want the shoes to be being worn down while i drive if the adjuster is too tight.

The adjuster only adjusts, once it's worn the high spots off it won't touch any more.

im reading that you can tighten the handbrake by just using the adjuster, is this right? do i just slacken off the adjuster and then tighten it until the drum locks and then slack off until drum turns, how freely should the drum turn?>
