Im just a dirty immigrant

Post by DiscoPol »

Wish me luck chaps Im off to the immigration again tomorrow to hear their decision on whether im allowed permanent residency over here, I cant help thinking it should just be a formality, seeing as im married to a national, have my own business here and am euro-bloody-pean and this is supposed to be europe too, but there is a sneaking doubt lurking around my mind.

I have been through the same process in a couple of other european countries and it wasnt anywhere near as complicated or difficult and to be honest wasnt anywhere near as important either, maybe this is why im starting to stress out a little on this one

Anyway tomorrow will either be a very happy day or the start of a long and drawn out affair involving european courts and expensive lawyers etc etc etc.

if i had any finger nails left i would chew the buggers down to the quick.

as i said im just after some positive words of encouragement or some good old 406 banter to keep the smile on my face.

If you get any problems, remind them how you and your kin helped kick the Nazis out of their country 66 years ago, and they may look a bit embarrassed and let you stay. Can't say fairer than that, surely?

Good luck anyway - maybe after this they'll let you buy a car without pissing you off.

I don't think I can give you any words of encouragement, having been through the same thing here. Acres of mindless bureaucracy and at the end of the day it'll be down to someone feeling in a good mood or not.

If all else fails drop your trousers and sing Rule Britannia, that'll soon have them treating you with the respect you deserve. Did you buy all the right forms? I'm sure some of them should just come on rolls with perforations...

Tell them you're the start of Britain's new foreign exchange policy - for every Polish citizen that graces our shores with his presence, we'll be sending a Brit over there to take his place & create room here...

Good luck :D

My son is a resident of Sweden, he's been there nearly 11 years now.

He's coming over for a holiday next week :D

Thats the last thing I'd advise anyone to do..... we completely sold the Poles down the river during and after WW2.

We didn't come to their aid (initially there was what is often called the phoney war), and we allowed them to be taken over by the Russians at the end of the War.

Polish free forces were also banned from the WW2 victory parades.

My step grandfather was a member of the Polish free forces, he was grateful to Britain for giving him a home after the war, but beyond that as far as he was concerned there was nothing else to thank Britain for.

DiscoPol - in spite of the above, your residency should be a formality, so good luck.

Oops :( No disrespect intended (sorry). It was meant as a tongue-in-cheek response, and I'm not particularly "up" on the history of that period - I find it all far too ghastly to study in-depth.

Additionally, I have the highest respect for members of the armed forces, regardless which country they come from or serve, their rank or their field of expertise (engineers, cooks, soldiers, pilots, etc) - they're all far braver than I am.

Oh good grief... Bloody Edinburgh though. If you'd been in Glasgow or Aberdeen they probably wouldn't have been like that.

If you're in a hole...

So, who else have the Brits pissed off? What amazes me about the Croats is they think thatcher and major are wonderful because the UK was one of the first countries to recognise Croatia's independence, this is just after the UK had been enforcing the arms embargo which meant that the Croats had to make their own weapons from scratch because the Serbs ran off with them all (down the road in Karlovac there's a tank that's very obviously made out of a tractor).

Ffs thatcher and major should be in the effing Hague instead of the Croat generals

I'm absolutely positive that there was no disrespect intended, and no offence was taken by me.

What we allowed to be done to Poland wasn't one of our finest hours

Aye, Europe should hang its head in shame for what was allowed to happen in the Balkans, in what is supposed to be a far more civilised era.
