I hate taking the bus to/from work.

If I take the bus, I have to get on a bus to the city centre (about 2 miles from my house) - these buses run frequently. Then get another bus out to the industrial estate - these buses do not run frequently. They break down a lot, take a convoluted route to get out to the estate anyway, and always follow the busiest traffic routes, guaranteeing they take longer than they really should. The heaters ONLY work in the summer, guaranteeing you frostbite in winter and heatstroke in summer. The seats are uncomfortable (if you even get a seat; a lot of the time you have to stand because the buses are overcrowded). And because the bus route that services the industrial estate also services the airport, you have people boarding with huge luggage. And, for a month's pass, they charge nearly £60.

In the car, if there's no traffic, it will take me 15 - 20 minutes to drive the 7 miles there. If there's lots of traffic, it can take an hour or more. But since the heater/aircon works, the seats are comfortable, there's no overcrowding, I can listen to my choice of music on a 10-speaker stereo system, and I can choose to take whichever route I like to... f*ck the buses. I'd rather drive.

Some mad people cycle to work out here. They constantly arrive soaking wet, freezing cold, and utterly miserable. Sure, they don't pay fuel costs, but I'd rather arrive relaxed, in comfort.

I agree 100%

The only ideal ways to get to work are cycling walking or train. Bus's are a joke and an ideal commute will take less than 30 minutes.

My dads 607 had its NCT (MOT) this morning, passed no bother. My mate said that that car doesnt need a test, it gave the NCT centre a "607" test!

In inner city areas a bike makes more sense, yes you get wet in the rain but its not as bad when your moving, on a bus you get soaked waiting on the damm things.

In the Leyland Leopards that they ran up until about 10 years ago, you used to get soaked *in* the damn things too.

it wasnt just me then, i remember them cold mornings going to school you would sit down and then water came in.
Shockingly i can remember the leyland shite up until about 2007, i remember sitting down on the seat of one and the base went through the frame.

Aye it was up until recently they got rid of the older Leopards and Tigers. Had them mostly for the school runs when I was at school in the mid-late 90s. Some of the buses doing the run were nudging 30 year old I'd reckon
Can still see the odd Tiger on an Alexander N type body, but they were better built than the older ones.

they have volvo plaxtons ie the goldliners as common people buses, they seem to be tinliners. 3 seats on one side, 2 on the other and a rediculosly small isle, which on the school run means a load of schoolbags holding up your exit, the storage rack was also very close to the seats so you would always hit it.
I was glad to get the car.

I was glad to get the car.

They used to pack 100 kids in the 50 seater bus. Standing room was like sardines.

And I was one of the 1st off about 2.5 miles from the school.

So a lot of pushing to try and get past, with often 2 or 3 schoolbags (schoolbooks, PE, occasionally home economics).

Could never afford a car as a teenager so endured it til A levels finished.

Any wonder I now avoid the things.

Don't mind trains, but you really need to be living handy to a station.
The girlfriend used to and we would nip into town on it for a wee drink.

i was only able to afford the car in the last 6 weeks of school hardly got much use out of it.
Then you got some inconsiderate prat or pratess who decided to set their schoolbag on a chair or stretch out across the chair meaning that seat was taken and you had to stand.
