I have a faulty speed interface unit i think,as my speedo sometimes fails for a minute or so.
Can anyone tell me how the glove box comes out?And what colour is the VSI unit?My car is a X reg 2001 406 Hdi (90),so i dont even know if it has a VSI!anyone shine a light on this?I read that if it had 2 wires going into the sensor thing beside the O/S drive-shaft it'd have a VSI.But then again the same person,i think, said my car would have the dreaded COM2000,and it didnt.

If you're fit enough, get down under the glovebox & look up & where the glovebox hinge is, there are little plastic pins that run through the hinge. They're a bit fiddly, but they pull out to free up the glovebox itself.
Then the hard part starts - the panel behind the glovebox goes all around to the side of the dash. You need to pop the smaller panel out from the side with a thin screwdriver & undo every torx bolt that you can see. Look carefully & you'll see the threaded end of another torx bolt which for some reason is tightened from the inside - you'll need mole grips to undo that one, but it is possible. Once all these are out you'll find that most of the housing will come out, but there'll be something right next to the centre console holding it in - this is another torx bolt that is tightened from behind, but is damn near impossible to get to. I ended up breaking the clip on that one, but it all still holds in well enough with the rest.
Didn't take any pics when I did my grey to black colour change as it was a bit of a rush really.

No mate-vsi - vehicle speed interface unit. The wire goes from the gear box final drive thingy(bevel) to the vsi, then i think, goes to the binnacle
Not sure if my car has 1 though as its a 2001 model. But from what i saw today it looks like it has 3 wires going to the drive on gearbox. Cant remember if this means i have/dont have the vsi unit

On top- dont you mean underneath?
From what i saw today its at the rear o the box underneath on the right hand side. O/S
Are you not thinking of the reverse sensor?

Thats weird as im lookin at a pic o 1 in the manual and its sayin its underneath on the o/s next to the drive shaft. Are you on about the white plastic plug on top o gearbox under the air filter housing?
