Cheap Anti-Freeze

poundworld have 500ml bottles of anti freeze concentrate (pure)

for £1 . mixed 50/50 with water it is good down to -36

a cooling system on a 406 needs aprox 6 litres. so 3 litres of antifreeze would cost you £6 and you would have protection down to -36

i think £6 is a bargain to change your coolant. you could spend £4 and get 4 bolltes (2 litres) and still have protection down to about -25

its blue by the way not red.

worth doing ready for the next winter. peice of mind as well @ only £4-£6

Is it not best just to fire 6 litres of the concentrate in? For the sake of another £6 or so.

your supposed to change the coolant in the 406 every year, the reason is that the radiator can block but i also know diesel peugeots are not immune from overheating.

It's recommended that if you don't know the type of anti-freeze in your car then you should drain/flush completely and do a new fill at the correct dilution. Too much anti-freeze can reduce the heat transfer, clean water has the best heat transfer but needs additives to control corrosion and sludge.

It's also not recommended to mix different types of anti-freeze in your system.

no dont use pure all together, no need for that. as welly says why.

i always have and always will use 25% pure anti freeze to 75% water that gives an protection of about -18 which is more than enough for were i live in north west england.

if you was to buy 6 bottles of the stuff from pound land which is 3 litres £6

and do a 50/50 mix you will still have protection down to -36 so there is no need to use it pure . even a 50/50 is to much

I buy already mixed antifreeze from mocal.
I also have stick a bottle of wetter watter in with the coolant too.
When I got bernard I flushed the coolant out, fitted a new thermostat, a bottle of wetter water, filled up with Mocals ready mixed antifreeze and fitted a new header tank cap.
Never got higher than 85-90 degrees, set at 75-80 degrees most the time, closer to 70 degrees on the motorway. 85 degrees when on boost for a long time.
Mocals anti freeze isn't cheap, but it's sh*t hot stuff

I know you shouldn't mix antifreezes either, so if you change then you should really flush it out.

anti freeze is anti freeze if ya ask me

i've never had any problems mxing different brands

what happens when half the population in england goes and buys a 1 litre top up bottle- i bet that top up bottle isnt the same as the garage used at the last service

Well mixing antifreezes can cause them to gel together and catch fire

I've personally seen it go thick while I was on work experience.
Got told that if left long enough it goes solid and very flamable.

if you mix antifreeze it can destroy it and it wont protect the car against freezing,
it can also make your car overheat,
there is an antifreeze on the market thatl mix with any kind of antifreeze its yellow stuff available at costcos,

iuse halfords antifreeze always have and always will,
its bright orange and as something in it to stop rusting its expensive tho,

anti freeze even tho its bottle and labeled different is the same thing inside.

it is all monoethylene glycol . mixing different brands wont do any harm whatso ever .

as long as you dont mix blue with red of course

stick with the same colour and it wont matter which brand you use
