Thanks a million Gary for all your data re. suspension (under recent posting "Rear Drop Links"). I'm now trying to make sense of it all under the car.
Am I right in saying that the Top Link runs horizontally (but sloping) in parallel with the flexible brake pipe which runs about
2 or 3 inches away? Sorry to trouble you again, mate.

just be carefull with the brake pipe it does run close to it.

Thanks pal. My local Pug dealer has quoted me £74 for one top link! He said that my model does not have anti-roll bar
so the top link has to be far stronger. I am not too sure about that. Anyway someone on ebay in N Ireland is supplying them at
around £12 including postage so I'll give them a bell tomorrow to check out the brand. My local PUG dealer has previous
for charging extortionate prices for parts. Anyway I've just swapped over the 2 rear shocks just to eliminate that as a
possible cause - then its on with the top link job!

I agree - sounds like a bit of blarney from the dealer. Probably to try and justify their silly prices!
Anyway just run the car after switching rear shocks and things are very much quieter at the back. No more rattle. Thing
is I expected the rattle would migrate from one side to the other but this did not happen. This is a mystery.
Could be a French plot of course. Just when you thought it had gone for good, back comes the b****y noise again!

My motor factors have quoted me Motaquip Top Link (1) at £11 which sounds good to me
compared to £74 from local Pug stealer! Nice to know if I end up needing one. Thanks for the
comments about possibly inferior ebay ones. One ebay supplier has just assured me that
his quality is good compared to some others on ebay. Think I'll stick to Motaquip.

I would try and source these from Eurocarparts, they do OE ones for £20 or so. I bought a pair of cheapies and they didn't last much longer than a year, the ball joint is made from chocolate.
Make a note of the position of the cam bolts when you remove the old ones, these adjust the wheel's camber and will give you tyre wear on the shoulders if incorrect.
