LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
A mechanic had my lift pump out & replaced it.Todays the first day I've filled up the tank to over 3/4 full. I have a leak on the top of the lift pump, where the locking ring sits on top of the light coloured plastic.i can move the pump top about a millimetre back & forward (from the direction of rear door to the other rear door).theres also a slight bit of movement (only slight!) when i push down on the top of the pump, but enough for sloshing diesel to seep through. This cars a f**kin nightmare!Cant be arsed anymore with it,so just wanted to know,if there is supposed to be an o ring or a rubber seal underneath the locking ring?or is there a seal on the pump itself?(and the ring just pushes the pump down so it seals from underneath?)wondering if I'd get away with using a rubber-type sealant round the top!what you guys think? Never gonna have a pug or a citroen ever ever again.crap

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
my mates lift pump went yesterday (not a 406)
and yes there is a big rubber seal like a ring. that goes round the top of the big lift pump housing..
this is a diagram of a 406 hdi 90.
it apears number 3 is the rubber ring seal .. does yours not have this ? if it doesnt, there seems to be 2 different types peugeot do.
im not sure which is for your car.
but one is £3.38 & the other is £9.23
who would bet yours is the more expensive one

I think you're right mate. Its seaping out just where the locking ring sits on the pump so somethin is missing. Dont wanna muck about wi the locking ring, as it doesnt wanna come off for me. Will wait til mon or tues & take it back to mechanics. I wouldnt be surprised if the last ar*ehole that f*cked up my pump put the wrong o ring on it, hence the leak,eh.
Great diagram by the way

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
the o-ring seems to be number 4 (i think)
so if you get a new rubber ring seal (number 3)
i cant see why it shouldnt stop leaking
(PS- the diagram was off peugeot service box)
you can register and look
when you register make up a company name - i used my name gary hill and came up with G H Motors, and make up a VAT number
(they dont check)

(it is good when you figure out how to use it

its plain and simple. but once use to it . its good , and you can get prices up so you know what to expect from the dealers.
failing that. just ask here mate , sum1 will answer your question

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
someone else told me not to muck about with the locking ring(no4!)as there's maybe a tool for taking it off.So i've kinda put myself off havin a look now,as i tried earlier on with a hammer&bit of wood to knock the locking ring round/off,but it doesnt wanna come off.it moved a bit but not much.now im worried I'll f*ck it up if I try it again.I've got a feeling that the rubber seal aint there cos an arsehole mechanic was too ignorant or lazy putting it all back!or its maybe fell in the tank.I'd give my left bollock to know now!haha

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
well if its fell in the tank it will be floating.
number 4 ring should come off easy to get access the the lift pump. i dont think you can damage/break it trying to get it off.

Maybe the locking ring as been put back on twisted sortof crossthreaded,
try tightening it then loosing it and see it will work loose,
it shouid come off withought damaging any thing,

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
My bro's had this problem - except the locking ring had snapped and someone clamped big hoseclip round it! Getting them cross-threaded and/or the seal not sitting right is not too unusual, it seems.....

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
I had to replace my lift pump yesterday and just wanted to say thanks for the info, helped loads!!
One thing which was a mare, neither the locking ring or the pump would fit through the access hole. I didn't find this out until I'd struggled to tuck the locking ring in the only available space under the seat and then couldn't get the pump out. Had a read on another post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12599 where it seems this isn't so unusual either so tin snips in hand I made a few precision cuts and expanded the access hole. Pumps swapped and reassembled quite easy if you get everything in place as descibed in the post, metal hammered back into place and cover replaced. Started first time.
Thanks again chaps

Re: LIFT PUMP LEAK hdi (90).SEALANT?
I've had the lift pump out a few times recently and it can be a pain to get it back on but on my 2000 406 HDI there is an arrow on the locking ring that when fully tight lines up with an arrow on the top of the lift pump. Has your 90 got this? Of course im talking about the Bosch system maybe yours is different.
RE specialist tools,
I used a wooden mallet and a narrow hammer shaft as a drift and it worked well, just dont hit it like crazy. I found some vasaline on the threads helped things along and a little greese on a perfectly DRY o ring assembly helped the ring stay in place.
Also look at were the rings thread starts and the thread on the tank so you know where it lines up to start. Once i got it started I had a helper push down on the pump with a hammer shaft to keep pressure on the o ring and stop it moving until i had the ring tightened enough.
Sloshing diesel is the last thing you need.
I hope this helps
