Striping

Post by waue1978 »

Does anybody know where I can get a 15mm wide stripe roll in either gold or turquoise? Remember years ago, Halfords & the like used to sell loads, but apparently most of the makers went bust & now all I can find is 12mm or 9mm. The only 15mm wide I can find are either white red or green on Ebay.

Funnily enough that's what I did - & they've now listed them on there. Got 2 rolls of gold (12mm & 15mm) & hopefully the same in turquoise coming.

Not sure which way I'll go though. Am considering changing the chrome strip on the mouldings to either colour as the chrome is going manky in places anyway. If I go for the turquoise, I may invest in the HDi badges with the green i & strip the other badges off. If I go gold, I may totally debadge apart from the lions front & rear repainted in gold. Only thing is, gold paint & a gold finish are 2 totally different effects so at the moment the turquoise is favourite.

Also, has anybody ever popped the boot badge off? Can it be taken apart easily & refurbed or is it easier just to replace it. Is it stick on?

Anybody fancy playing with the Photoshop on the below? I tried with the standard Windows stuff earlier, but it didn't look right where the colours are stronger.

over the chrome on the black rubbing strips on the doors, bumpers & tailgate - the chrome is corroded in a few places.

Yeah it's stick on but it's got 2 locating pins that go through the tailgate just to ensure it's positioned correctly, so you cant leave it off or replace it with the newer chrome lion cos it'll leave 2 holes in the tailgate  . I considered trying to line the lion's feet up to cover the holes but not sure if that'll work....

It can't really be refurbed. I got a new standard one off ebay for a few quid years ago but that one's knackered too now

Only problem with red is that it harks back to the 80s when Ford XRs & Vauxhall SRis did them to death. But I did contemplate red also accompanied by a red i HDi badge, but think I'm going to go for the turquoise now that it may not be so straightforward to change the lion badges to gold.

Back when I was young & had sporty cars my mate always used to change his red stripes to turquoise, but I went 1 step further with my Cav SRis & got the SRi stickers made up in turquoise to match. One of the best was the black one though - told him I was getting it done in gold & he reckoned it'd look crap. When I did it though he agreed that it looked good with the black bodywork & gold stripes & SRi making it look reminiscent of the old JPS Lotus racers.

Seemed easier on the fords of old with changing the strip colour

I did it twice on my black XR4x4
First time was to torquoise, then secondly to lilac

Could just pop the inserts out and cover them with tape, then pop them back in

Don't think it's that easy with the 406

See if you can find a complete rear door from an Estate with the newer chrome lion on it. Ought to be a straight swap.
