I think the carmakers do realise the future isn't the combustion engine. Just the oil companies wont let anything but the status quo.

Car makers have almost given up completley with developing new petrol engines, apart from vw and fiat.
Diesels seem to be what the car makers are pushing on us.
There is no new v6 or v8s about.

Running a thirsty petrol engine, I can see why.

But at least I'm getting it out of my system while I can, just before £2 a litre.

For example, the Honda FCX Clarity, which has a range of about 240 miles on a full tank of hydrogen (around 4 KG of pressurized Hydrogen). It also performs like a regular car (130-ish HP and 190 ft/lbs of torque), and is a zero-emissions device as the only by-product of hydrogen fuel consumption is water - regular old H20.

The only issue with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is the present lack of infrastructure and industry for producing, distributing, and selling hydrogen on the same scale as they currently produce petrol and diesel. 240 miles of range is pretty decent - if every petrol station in the UK supplied hydrogen, we'd have a real alternative at last.

If they made electric cars a bit more fun than the shitboxes available now. why would they make them front wheel drive.
A good idea would be to put an electric motor in a caterham, a light back wheel drive car, with plenty of torque.

Thats what Tesla was trying.

Before the German-industry backed Top Gear decided to mock it on air.

The tesla is ok but i think the caterham is better, because its more simple.
Although an aeriel atom with an electric motor that would be nice.

Cars will need to have engine noises though, will it be a cd with alfa v6 noises?

Our work proxy classified that site as "porn" and wouldn't let me anywhere near it.

Mind you, it does that with picvalley.net, and there's someone here that uses that site as their picture hosting, so I can't see any of their photos til I get home.
